Beautiful Music Mar 22, 2010 The songs are in a different order than shown on the album cover and insert, but that's no big deal. There are 11 tracks--played in the order I have listed them below. With vocals by Nancy Wilson, music by Barry Manilow, and lyrics by Johnny Mercer, this is a great CD - nice party music/dinner music/cocktail lounge music--slow to lightly upbeat. I think I saw "Jazz" somewhere, but I would not call any of this album Jazz. A little less than 45 minutes total.
1) With My Lover Beside Me
2) Look at You/Something Tells Me I'm in Love
3) When October Goes
4) Love is Where You Find It/At Last
5) I Can't Teach My Old Heart New Tricks
6) When the Meadow Was Bloomin'
7) Heart of Mine, Cry On (Blues)
8) Just Remember
9) The Last Dream Home
10) With My Lover Beside Me (Reprise)
11) Epilogue (Duet with Barry Manilow) (a compilation of several of the songs above)
If you are also a Barry Manilow fan, you will likely recognize "When October Goes," "When the Meadow Was Bloomin'," and "Just Remember" from some of his CDs. I'm pretty sure I also have him doing "I Can't Teach My Old Heart New Tricks". I have often heard Barry say that when Johnny Mercer died, Johnny's widow hunted Barry down and gave him Johnny lyrics that were yet unset to music. I wonder if any of these were the lyrics Barry referred to. (My liner notes say nothing. They only list the names of the songs.)
Nancy's voice is great, as it always was--clear, strong and pretty, with much feeling. If you love beautiful heart-centered music, you will likely love this beautiful CD. This is what happens when 3 Masters come together to make a CD.
Nancy Wilson - With My Lover Beside Me Feb 17, 2010 This CD is on of the most beautiful pieces of music ever recorded. Johnny Merer lyrics, Barry Manilow music, and "The Baby" doing the vocals. If you want someone to fall in love with you just add a hot fireplace and wine and they'll be your forever. This puschase was exactly what I wanted. Mine had gotten scratched and I could not find it anywhere in Atlanta. The price was well within my budget and it arrived in just a few days of my order. I could not have been more pleased.
38:49 (THIRTY-EIGHT MINUTES & FORTY-NINE SECONDS) OF PURE BLITZ!!! Dec 18, 2009 One of Nancy Wilson's best (Out Of Print) albums recorded for Columbia Records! If it was released NOW (In 2009) it would be right up there (On Billboard's Album Charts with Barbra Streisand, and Whitney Houston albums (Yes!, It's that good!!!). Cuts: "I Can't Teach My Old Heart New Tricks", and "The Last Dream Home" BOTH could have (Should have) been Billboard Top Ten Charted Hit Singles! This Album is fantastic from the beginning to the end. Includes some of the top musicians in the business! How's this (Just to name a few): Harvey Mason, Paul Jackson Jr., and Kirk Whalum! Oh! and one must give the ultimate thumbs up to Barry Manilow (Producer) and the one who put music to these newly 'Discovered' Johnny Mercer lyrics! And last, but not least the incredible Nancy Wilson!!!...What can be said Nancy Wilson that hasn't already been said??? Just like the best of wine...It just gets better with time! Her voice (And picture) proves it with this awesome album!
Cannot believe I had not heard It Nov 30, 2009 Thsi is my fourth Nancy Wilson LP and is now my favorite. The orchestration is perfect. If you are a fan of all three (Wilson, Manilow, Mercer and how could you not be if you're reading this) you'll not be disappointed.
Best from Nancy Oct 15, 2009 This CD is a recording of Nancy Wilson at her best. I have played the CD over and over. I've loaned it to one of my friends who did the same. The unique singing style of Nancy Wilson is highlighted in this CD and is made memorable by the wonderful choice of songs recorded on it. I would recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys listening to Nancy Wilson.
