Excellent Oct 01, 2009 Wiseblood is my second forey into a band that has become, for, an increasingly likable option for what to play. If you, like I, know little about metel, it is difficult to seperate the dimonds from the trash, the Corrosion of Conformity, from the Quiet Riot.
But as I discovered from my first serious COC excursion, In The Arms Of God, this band fills their albums with chunky riffs, smart lyrics, and attitude, litterate attitude.
Blasting metal textures like this band may be an adjustment, when, like me, you come out of psych, jazz and progressive rock. But get used to this, and you realize the riffing bands like COC is not that different from Led Zeppiln or Black Sabbath. It is just louder, with digital sound, and made for more jaded, modern young fans.
In a sense, this band is no different from the music I grew up on and love. These guys know how to write, join parts together for great songs, and insert flurishes for nuance. COC is not Cream or Hendrix, but experianced ears cannot miss this music being peppered with the blues.
Wiseblood may be recorded on digital equiptment, but I hear the bass slides, the stray cymbal smash, all the imperfections that make music real. COC has not let modern poroduction wash the metal out.
Get used to the modernazations, and you can love it as much, until it becomes part of you too.
Rocked as hard as I thought it would Sep 01, 2009 While looking for some new bands, I listened to a few songs from COC and decided that I would give them a try. I saw this album for a respectable price, read the reviews and figured it would be a good place to start. Boy was I right. This album is pure stoner rock/groove metal and it just about oozes out of my speakers/headphones like a thick sludge. If you like Monster Magnet or Clutch or just like listening to stoner/groove rock in general, this is a good album to start with.
corroded view May 26, 2009 This band is only surpassed by Pepper Keenans other band Down. Wiseblood is a true offering and solid offering of what C.O.C. is.
Wiseblood is a wise choice Sep 26, 2007 This album, one of the latter ones by Corrosion of Conformity, is full of detuned blues riffs, coupled with some psychadelia, and served a la North Carolina. Definitely not like their early hardcore punk records, Wiseblood exhibits a more mature swagger than previously seen by C.O.C. Still heavy, but even groovier, this album seems like the natural precursor to the Down NOLA album. Throw in some fast-tempo gut busters like 'Wishbone (Some Tomorrow)' and the sludgefest that is 'Man or Ash' (featuring James Hetfield on backing vocals) and you've got a pretty tight record. Fairly solid from start to finish. 4/5
Great music to workout to Aug 11, 2007 I ripped this CD and put it into my MP3 player to take to the Gym. This is GREAT music period - but it is really good to "Pump you up" (Remember Hanz and Franz?) I am 59 years old and have been listening to Rock for a LONG time. I can honestly say this is some of the best I have heard.
