Nevada Barr Fans Winter Study is Good Oct 29, 2009 A good read. You will learn a lot about wolves and moose and one of our most northern National Parks without any effort at all because the story is a page-turner and hard to put down. Nevada Barr is wonderful that way. Her books are always a treat so don't miss "Winter Study."
Terrific book Oct 16, 2009 I loved this book, and I love the series. Not only is the mystery a real who-dun-it, it is incredibly original as well. Mother Nature is a character all by herself, with rich descriptions of the island and particularly of the lives of wolves. Really an excellent book.
BEST Book Ever Oct 08, 2009 What a great book - couldn't put it down. I am definately a Nevada Barr fan after this!
very good but nerve wracking... Sep 27, 2009 I've always liked this author's books but this one had me tense the entire time I was reading it. It was almost like reading a Stephen King novel. I don't read King's books because they are too scary and I'm hoping Barr calms down a little on the next book.
The study of the wolves in this one was interesting but when the researchers started doing an autopsy, I started getting a little edgy and then the killings were more gross than usual. Not exactly a cozy mystery series anymore but still a very good book, but I may pass on reading some of her stuff in future unless the reviews say it's more cozy than scary!
Haunting and scary Aug 21, 2009 Although some readers think Nevada Barr's Anna Pigeon novels move too slowly, I love the immersion into the landscape of each national park that she writes of. The stories develop slowly, and vary in quality, but always capture me completely. In this story, Ranger Pigeon returns to Isle Royale National Park, but this time in the winter, to join the winter wolf study team. A little different than Barr's usual mysteries, because of the hint of the supernatural.
