Wonderful for children to listen to! Nov 18, 2009 I play this CD in the car when I pick up my 5 year-old from school. Since I also have an infant, it keeps her calm in the car. My 5 year-old finds the music calming as well and gives her a moment to unwind until we get home. The children's voices are purely magical!
BEST SOUNDTRACK ALBUM IN A WHILE!!!! Nov 10, 2009 I took the kid to see this movie. It was good although I must confess, from being a Sopranos fan all those years, James Gandolfini as the main "wild thing" was sort of tough to handle. I felt that more of the kids in the theater should have been more scared of the animal's erratic and aggressive behavior. Like when he punches a hole in the wall, I was like "sh**! That kid is DEAD!"
Easily for me though, it was the soundtrack that made the film. Entirely original (I think one song was a Daniel Johnson cover, but...) and essential to the flow of the movie overall. And, a great album! About half way through, I was already thinking about where I could get the record on the way home.
I think that the soundtrack makes a great album for a few reasons. First off, but not mainly, due to the content, it is a family friendly outing. Kids will enjoy it as much as adults (although, I think adults will like it more)... Karen O is great at playing the part of an angry kid, and though she may not ever get as loud as she does on any Yeah Yeah Yeahs record, she still has a way of expressing the "wild" side,,, while remaining smooth and subtle enough to play for a kid before bed time. In fact, while there are a few upbeat tunes like HEADS UP and ALL IS LOVE, there are alot of mellower moments in the mix... my favorite track here is the dreamy surreal HIDEAWAY.
Still expect a few hoots and hollers from the kids though in tracks like RUMPUS. Several songs actually have a chorus of kid singers, but it's not over done, and it works. The album is very well put together, and one I'm sure I will still enjoy with out any kids around. Good stuff! P.S> The Arcade Fire song is not here... just thought I'd throw that in. *This review is for the LP vinyl edition*

Not a good CD for the purpose I was hoping for Nov 08, 2009 I confused this CD for the band that is playing the main tune in the movie trailer. If you want that song...look for Arcade Fire and their 'Funeral' album. 'Wake Up' is song #7. If you go to youtube, you can see Arcade Fire and David Bowie playing that song on stage--It really rocks.
I found the WTWTA soundtrack CD too abstract for me to enjoy, and nothing really grabbed my attention. It was not something I wanted to listen to over and over again in my car while stuck in traffic. Though the music is cute and artistic, and I like kids participating in the making of the songs, I just had to go back to my Sammy Hagar CDs which leave me more satisfied.
I have not seen the movie yet because it's not really the kids movie I was hoping it would be. Better to enjoy Disney's Little Mermaid and buy that soundtrack.

So Playful!! Oct 26, 2009 Brings back memories of childhood. A very pleasant and unintrusive nostalgia that makes you want to play with someone.
