 ABB still making great music Nov 04, 2009
I remember in the late '80s being excited about the Allmann Brothers reunion, primarily to be able to see all those great classics in concert. As it turns out, Seven Turns to this day is my favoriite album by them. Shades of Two Worlds has some strong material but, for me, wasn't nearly as compelling. I didn't wind up getting Where It All Begins until 2009. What a knucklehead! this album is excellent and is nearly as great as Seven Turns. Songs like Soulshine and No One to Run With are gems. This was the last album with Dickey Betts and his contributions are strong, too. Great album you can play over and over again.

They should have grouped all 4 C.D.'s together and made shipping cheaper. And they did take a long time to deliver. Never have I seen anything take weeks to get to me.
Overlooked 1990s gem Feb 12, 2009
This album is far better than it has a right to be. First is the guitar pyrotechnics. There are great guitar duels and fills on this record! After 15 years, this album is no longer new. Yet it shines brightly as the last studio album with Dickey Betts. And his contributions are monumental, with the fantastic title track Where it All Begins and the also great song Everybody's Got a Mountain to Climb. I really think the vocal blends on that song are pushing it to +11 on the dial. It is great stuff.
This could have been a mediocre album at this stage in their career. You can call this record second class if you really want to. But it's going to defy you. The standard of songwriting is too high. The tracks all have an atmosphere that is too good. Maybe it ain't great art but it is a really solid record... and with Betts there is no denying the direct link to Allmans history. It's a victory over the excuses of old age. Instead you get the best songs they possibly could have written. And the recording is very nice mix by Tom Dowd, their original Fillmore East mixer and producer. The album was recorded live in the studio.
 The Allman Brothers Band "Back Where it all Begins" CD Feb 02, 2009
This is an outstanding studio album cd from the Allman Brothers Band from 1994. This line-up consists of Gregg Allman on Organ and Lead Vocals, DICKEY BETTS on guitar and lead vocals, Jaimoe on drums, Butch Trucks on drums, Warren Haynes on guitar and lead vocals, ALLEN WOODY on bass, and Marc Quinones on Congas.
It contains 10 great "jam-oriented" songs. Highlights include: "No one to run with", "All Night Train", "Sallin' Cross the Devil's Sea", and "Change my Way of Living".

A great album from a great band. Jul 04, 2007
I can only echoe the sentiments of the previous reviewers. This is really a fantastic album from a fantastic band. All of these songs sound like the logical follow up to the great 70's classic albums the band has released.
For me, the song that really shines on this album is change my way of living. It is a song that I listened to off and on and one day it hit me. I could not stop listening to that song. The slide work is phenomenal. This album shows what an integral part of the band Dickey is. I saw AB a couple of years ago without Dickey and it was like seeing half the band. Don't get me wrong, There are enough Greg Allman songs to make a great show, but the show would have been better with DB there.
If you like the Allman Brothers you will like this album. I recommend it highly.
