EXCEEELNT GUIDANCE FOR LIVING Nov 07, 2009 I was given the book as a present and then bought the CD so I could listen on ride to work. So much sound advice and wisdom packed in easy to understand words and format. The issue here is putting what you are exposed to into practice. I heartily recommend for anyone who wants to get an enlightened perspective on the problem of living in this world.
FOOD FOR THE SOUL OR FOOD FOR THOUGHT Nov 03, 2009 I have read through some of the reviews posted earlier - those which say it is good, and the one which said it is not a good idea. And I thought how my review would help one who is trying to decide on whether to buy these books or not, because they are probably relying on our reviews for help. I would say that both "for" and "against" have their valid points. I, myself, find "When Things Fall Apart" very insightful and helpful. But then again, I have been exposed to Buddhism and I myself, have a Guru to guide me, explain the meanings to me and clarify every subject for my better understanding. Not many people have that luxury or even have access to such a priviledge. Some people may be reading these Buddhism books for their own spiritual or intellectual interest/understanding. Therefore, it would differ from one person to the next. For those who have been exposed to Buddhism, then "When Things Fall Apart" is a good source of learning and help, as it was intended to be in the first place. All Buddhism books are intended to help, benefit and guide us all, Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. However, for those who are just beginning, or may only be interested in like a self-help or self-improvement guide/reading, then I would recommend something from Tsem Tulku Rinpoche: "Compassion Conquers All" or "Ready To Go". After reading or listening to these, then when you read "When Things Fall Apart", you gain a deeper understanding of Pema Chodron's meaning. I hope this review does help.

Quite possibly the most impacting book I have ever read in my life Aug 23, 2009 Quite possibly the most impacting book I have ever read in my life. I picked this up when I thought things were going wonderfully. I had no idea how much more there was in life. "As I become more wholehearted in my journey of gentle honesty, it comes as quite a shock to realize how much I've blinded myself to some of the ways I've caused harm. My style has been so ingrained that I've not heard when others have tried to tell me, either kindly or rudely that I am causing harm by the way I am or the way I relate with others. I've become so use to the way I do things that somehow I thought that others were use to it too." Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Heart advice for difficult times, intimacy without fear... I honestly avoided this book because of the Buddhist perspective. Instead, it was a beautiful LIFE perspective, not a book on Buddhism. Coming from a thick Christian perspective, I found this book to have a healthy, fertile journey of what everyone who wants fullness, peace, healing. Absolutely the most wonderful book I have ever read.
When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron, audioCD Aug 05, 2009 For those seeking guidance in living well, I 've found the writings of Pema Chodron outstanding. Even if you are unacquainted with Buddhist philosophy, her thoughts ring true in a practical, life affirming way.
The CD book was recommended to me by a friend and professor as something to have on hand for listening at most needed times. I've found her suggestion rewarding. I highly recommend this version as well as any of P Chodron's other works.
