Wooden Woody Nov 22, 2009 This is the last time I fork out for a Woody Allen movie without knowing anything about the movie first. I'm afraid his credit no longer runs. I have never panned a Woody film before, but this takes the can. Vicky Christina Barcelona was bad enough. Time to hang up the camera and go fishing, Mr. Konigsberg.
This film was buttock clenchingly awful, from the wooden masturbatory fantasy of a plot to the painful effort of the lead to be Woody Allen. I felt sorry for the actors, especially Evan Rachel Wood. Annie Hall it wasn't.
Whatever Works is the best!!!! Nov 21, 2009 The best? I think so. Definitely the funniest Woody Allen film ever!!! Easily, hands down!!!
write (and direct) into woody's top ten Nov 19, 2009 LARRY DAVID was born to play this role . before seeing this highly recommended (through a co-worker) film , i wasn't sure that woody would allow LARRY to be LARRY so much . as us fans of LARRY's breathlessly funny "CURB YOR ENTHUSIASM" have known for at least seven years now , MR. DAVID is a genius on par with MR. ALLEN . this film is certainly not for all tastes . i'd only encourage people forty years of age or older to see this picture unless they were quite bright and/or sufficiently world weary . fairly soon on the heals of the great "MATCH POINT" , i'm beginning to forgive WOODY (you know why) . on NPR's fresh air WOODY said he wrote this film with ZERO MOSTEL in mind . he put it in a desk after ZERO passed away in the 70s . thank gosh he took it back out and dusted it off and tailored it for LARRY . friggin' hilarious and touching . perhaps the best domestic picture of the year .

Best Woody for some time. !! Nov 17, 2009 Woody Allen's movies get under rated (such as this one) and occasionally because they feature penelope Cruz ("Vicki Christina Barcelona" which I personally disliked immensely) over rated.
This is a little gem and his best movie at least since "Match Point" Its funny, warm and ultimately hopeful and Patricia Clarkson is to die for-along with "Crimes and Misdemeanours", "Annie H", "Interiors", "Manhattan", it's one of my favourites.
Sublimating! Nov 16, 2009 Sub-mental response to life like "whatever" maybe acceptable, eventually, to a genius, who can see the `big picture'.
I watched this movie right after watching Food, Inc. This sequence of movies created a bizarre perspective on life in my mind: The meek, who shall inherit the Earth according to the Bible, is not a reference to any group of humans, but to the corn.
