Description:

The multiplatinum kings of MOR nu metal have gotten a bit more aggressive and intense--to fine effect--on some of Weathered's 11 stellar, radio-friendly tracks. For those who prefer the soft side of singer/stud Scott Stapp and his cohorts, there are the melodic and soaring "Hide" and "Don't Stop Dancing." But more interesting is "Bullets," which finds Stapp raging before a surprisingly heavy and intense musical backdrop. Other highlights include the Seattle-sound throwback "Freedom Fighter," the Zeppelinesque "Who's Got My Back," and the disc's first single, "My Sacrifice." The effects-laden, passionate "Signs" contrasts nicely with the laid-back, world-weary title track and "Lullaby." Ultimately, Weathered gently expands the seemingly fail-proof formula. --Katherine Turman

4Creed finds some much needed balance...  Dec 11, 2009
While there is still nothing found on `Weathered' that really compares to the best of `My Own Prison' (outside of `One Last Breath', which is Creed's finest moment), it can be said that their third album shows them regaining a little of the steam they let out with their sophomore release. There are still a few missteps, but overall the composition here is a step in the right direction.

So if `Human Clay was `one step forward, two steps back' then this would be...?

The album opens with a blistering `Bullets', a track that lets you know two things. First, it tells you that Creed doesn't want to completely throw away their rock edge. There isn't a shred of Top-40, commercial ANYTHING running through the veins of this track. Second, it lets you know they are serious. Sadly, `Freedom Fighters' doesn't maintain the edge the way I'd like it to. It actually falls into that cheap feeling like I got from the `heavy' tracks on `Human Clay'. `Who's Got My Back' may be overly long (8+ minutes), but it uses the time well and constructs a great rock song (it feels almost spiritual, doesn't it?).

Alongside `Freedom Fighter', `Stand Here With Me' and `Lullaby' mark the worst on the album. `Stand Here With Me' is just rather boring and uninspired, but `Lullaby' is the biggest disappointment. It has a lot of promise, but it doesn't really capitalize on it and it comes off rather lukewarm to me.

I wanted something more.

`Signs' hits hard here, and tracks like `Weathered' and `Hide' really showcase the bands commercial rock side beautifully. They lack on edge but present crisp and memorable visions of Creed's new direction. They pretty much perfect that the band attempted on `Human Clay'. `Don't Stop Dancing' really hits me in good places, even if the lyrical content is a tad on the `inspirational country music' side. I don't like their choice of wording, because it feels rather corny, but they beautifully string it together with a sweet sentimentality that makes the song digestible.

And then we have `One Last Breath', easily the best thing this band has ever done and the main reason why `Lullaby' is so disappointing. As you listen to the first half of `One Last Breath', you really can hear the subtle tones in Stapp's voice and the musical melody just carries him to another level. That is what I wanted from `Lullaby'. The second half of the song shifts gears and offers us something heavy and loud, but it never loses the melody that made the first half so beautifully appealing. It is a perfect song, one of the best released by a band of this nature ever.

So, I give this album a B. No +, no -, for it is right smack in the middle of the two albums that came before it. It polishes up the edge that `My Own Prison' had by delivering some great pure rock and it manages to perfect some of what `Human Clay' attempted to establish, but the flaws that were so prevalent on `Human Clay' are still here, just not as dominant.

As a side note, the cover art to this album is horrendous. Not that it makes a difference when judging the content of the album itself, but I just felt the need to say that.

So, now it's time for me to sink my teeth into their latest album!

5Creed either you like them or you make fun of them.  Dec 11, 2009
1-Bullets-Fairly heavier than most Creed songs, but a great way to open the album.
2-Freedom fighter-If someone produced a show about WW2,this would be the theme tune.
3-Who's got my Back?-Bit of a slow song, and too quiet, but it does speed up towards the end.
4-Signs-A great song to protest against a war with Iraq, but great in general.
5-One last Breath-The 3rd single released off this album, after My sacrifice+Bullets.Another great by Creed.
6-My Sacrifice-A classic as soon as you listen to it.
7-Stand here with me-This holds the great guiter riff .Buy the album for this.
8-Weathered-Yet another classic by Creed.
9-Hide-Not great, but still damn near it.
10-Don't Stop Dancing-4th single released, could've done better on this.
11-Lullaby-A nice slow tune to close the album with, compared to the blazing opening.

Creed either you like them or you make fun of them.

5Creed rocks!!!!!!!  Oct 28, 2009
I have all of Creed's CDs and this one is my favorite. They are a great band and I hope they continue making music. Scott has an awesome voice and Mark is an awesome guitar player. I saw them in concert in September and they rock the house!!

When I first heard Creed I thought, "What a joke." I grew up with metal and hard rock with the guarantee of Classic Rock over my shoulder. People would tell me, "Wow have you heard Creed?" and I would dismiss them because I wasn't receptive to new influences. I listened to Creed on the radio in the 90's and they seemed to be rock inspired. I still put off buying anything of theirs. The years progressed and since the spring of good hard rock was quickly drying up, I decided to buy a used copy of "My Own Prison." I listened to that CD for a while, while driving, grudgingly, but eventually realized that Creed is the next guide-on bearer of rock. The radio also made me a fan of Creed. I got "Human Clay", and "Weathered" because the days of getting a cutting-edge Cult album are long gone. I don't regret getting them, though, because now they are one of my favorite bands. On Weathered the title song will stay in your head forever or two weeks, whichever applies. Also, the phrase "You stand here with me" will be in your head for the same period of time. Sacrifice is good too. One Last Breath (6') will satisfy. "Got my back" will challenge a Christian's thought process in a good way. Anyway, it took me a while to accept(sorry, not Udo), but Creed is alright.

2Big disappointment  Oct 04, 2008
Listen to the samples and buy the 1-2 good songs. Creed had two great albums, but this one shows why some bands should break up.
