BS's BS CD Dec 18, 2009 Totally pissed. Bought the CD but can't play it on my computer or rip it to my hard drive. Why do I buy CDs again?

Bad Production, Dualdisc Ruined My CD Player Dec 17, 2009 First the really bad. The dualdisc format employed for this cd is thicker than a normal cd and can get stuck in slot loading cd players. This happened to me and I had to use a pliers to extricate the cd, ruining both the cd and the cd player. If you do an internet search on "dualdisc stuck" you will find a number of cd player manufacturers do not reccommending using dualdiscs in their slot loading CD players. Unfortuantely, non of the information that came with the disc on on the dualdisc website mentions this anywhere. Neither the folks at Sony nor Bruce springsteen's representatives have responded to my complaints about this.
Now to the music itself (based on the one time I was able to listen to it). I am a big fan of both Bruce Springsteen and Pete Seeger. This album however failed to impress me in anyway. It is generally overproduced and over orchestrated despite what the liner notes would have you believe. Generally the orchestrations are overly complicated interpretations of simple Pete Seeger "hits" which really miss the mark. I am a big fan of the Seeger originals as well as a huge fan of Bruce's Nebraska album, but this CD has none of the positive attributes of either. The spare and striking production values of Nebraska (which were a big risk for Bruce at the time) are no where to be found on this album, although evidently that was the type of feel they were attempting to create. Also, calling the album the "Seeger Sessions" is incredibly mis-leading as Pete Seeger doesn't appear to have any affiliation with the album, other than Bruce's poor interpretations of public domain songs that also appeared on Pete Seeger albums.
All things considered I would stay far away from this train wreck of an album. (I would have probably given 2 stars based just on the music, if the cd hadn't ruined my cd player)

Lively and engaging! Oct 17, 2009 This is true American music delivered with Springsteen's high-powered persona and terrific band. Kudo's to Pete Seeger, a real American hero!

This is like no other folk music I've heard ... Jul 20, 2009 ...and I love it! Banjos and brass; Appalachian Zydeco! The arrangements are pure genius, the performers' enthusiasm is apparent. I hope there's a Guthrie Sessions in the works.
