This is actually my second Jimmy Cliff collection. I have his best of from Mango/Island, which is his earlier work. There's not much duplication from that album, which is also recommended.
This one features a lot of his later work when reggae, in general, got a little more cheesy and over-produced. Jimmy Cliff's earlier stuff is much rawer.
On this album though, despite being from a bad time in reggae, nearly every one of the songs is quite good. There are some good, bouncy, upbeat, more-synthesized beats. The choruses are strong and easy to get into.
Also, this compilation features "I Can See Clearly Now" from Cool Runnings, which means you don't have to buy the soundtrack just to get this one great song.
Overall this is really good, fun music. A good intro to Jimmy Cliff. Also, it's definitely a good starting point for any reggae beginner.

It is indeed the best of Jimmy Cliff Jul 12, 2005
The first Jimmy Cliff's song that I fall in love with is his classic "I can see clearly now". This song will instantly relief you from bad feeling and let you think more about the bright future rather than concentrating on current discomfort. The Jamaica style rhythm allows anyone to picture a peaceful world with wonderful sand, clear sea and blue sky.
Another song I have been constantly listening to is: "You can get it if you really want it". This song motivates people to stay on the track and never lose heart on the dreams that they had. More importantly, it reminds you to pursuit your passions with all the efforts.
Other songs collected in this CD are "Reggae Night", "Wonderful World, Beautiful People", these songs promotes an uplifting spirits and encourage people to see the world in a positive perspective.
As a start-up business owner, I found this album to be the best companion that I ever had. It keeps me focused on my goals and cheers me up whenever I encounter obstacles. Five star album and strongly recommended!

Great Reggae Pioneer Jun 07, 2004
Jimmy Cliff's music career lasted from the mid-sixties to the mid-nineties. Most of this compilation features music made in the 80s, when Cliff was at the top of his fame. However, popular tracks from other decades are included and overall gives you a great introduction to the happy, vibrant, and introspective sound that's come to be associated with this great name.

Jimmy Cliff is one of the reggae greats and this CD puts together some of his best known hits of the 1960's, 70's and 80's.
Nothing beats the reggae beat. Reggae has been the sound of the ghetto for decades -the voices of discontent.
But it is also the sound of those who love the sun, the sand and the sea.Some of the smashing reggae favourites on this album include: The inspirational song: `You Can Get It If You Really Want' The Afro-Caribbean love song: `Roots Woman' The 60's songs of unity and fraternal love: `We All Are One' and `Wonderful World, Beautiful People' The much loved feel-good song, `I Can See Clearly Now.
There are, of course, various other well-known versions by other artists. The youth protest song warning governments and regimes around the world to `Treat The Youths Right.' Written in 1982, this song should be used today by youth movements, to rally against oppressive regimes in Zimbabwe, Iran, Cuba, Belarus, Red China and others. The funky `Hitting with Music.' Another sun and Caribbean Sea love song: `Special' The 1980's super party hit `Reggae Night.' The political protest and Afro-Jamaican pride song `Roots Radical.' The political satire, condemning the United Nations `Peace Officer.' `Hanging Fire' with its feel that reminds you of parties on hot summer Caribbean nights. And finally we slow down to a gentler pace with `Now And Forever.' This album captures the scope of one of Jamaica's most talented sons.
