2-1/2 stars -- And this is actually one of his better albums Jan 17, 2006 Bow Wow seems to be on top of the world right now; he has two top ten singles from this album, he's making a number of guest spots, and he landed Ciara. All this is undoubtedly a warm welcome from the period when his last album, Unleashed, was out. Surprisingly, Jermaine Dupri was nowhere to be found on that album, but he's back in full effect on Wanted. However, he doesn't make the album very impressive.
You can tell that Bow Wow's sound has matured on here for two reasons: 1) his voice is a little more mature, and 2) the "n" word is no longer blocked out. But as my brother said in his review, the only songs that really stand out on here are the singles: "Let Me Hold You" and "Like You". On the former, though, I was wondering if he was hanging around Omarion too much because in the video he kind of looked like Lil' Fizz; and on the latter, since the song is for his lady and features her, wouldn't it have been a better sentiment had he had a hand in writing the lyrics?
Anyway, there are a lot of filler tracks, like "Caviar", "B.O.W.", and "Do What It Do". And the chorus to "Mo Money" sounds like it came out of 1993 ("Mo money, mo money, mo money."). "Big Dreams" is also weird in that the chorus suggests it's a keep-your-head-up song, but the verses detail very tragic stories, thus making it hard TO keep your head up.
Another skippable track is "Fresh Azimiz" (fresh as I'm is), which features a weak hook by one-hit wonder J-Kwon; and for some reason Bow Wow went back to bragging about having more money than your daddy. Speaking of rehashed ideas, "Is That You (P.Y.T.)" sounded better when it was called "Ghetto Girls", and the part in parentheses should tell you what song it's sampling for the umpteenth time. Finally, the hidden track, "Eighteen", was already on Unleashed, so why is it here?
Bow Wow may be able to score some hit singles, but he just doesn't have what it takes to carry a whole album. And the saddest thing is, his best album probably came out when he was thirteen. This album may be called Wanted, but it's really UNwanted in my collection.
