P*A*R*T*Y Non-Stop Electronic Hip-Hop Dance Funk! Sep 26, 2009 When I put this *album CD on my player it was on my changer as an okay type "imagining". After listening to an array of famous music artists and then boom this one is played, I was completely BLOWN AWAY! How totally unexpected, to hear such new electronica, dance, up-tempo jam packed funk! Michelle Williams has introduced her first R&B Dance sound to bring shock-waves! This has no boredom, no slow tempo bland filler, or ballads to sleep. This is up-tempo, fast paced dance tracks with R&B + hip-hop infused and extremely listener friendly vocals. This was a mind blowing shock since it was SO unexpected!!!
What magnetized me the most toward this album was the diverse sound incorporating new age technology, electronica, and much positive uplifting moods. It's a freeing, uncovering, soulful experience of letting go, emptying your worries, and being alive again. Her voice sounds so amazing--who would've thought that Michelle has such a lovely voice? The entire musical journey from this listening experience is positive, happy, and thought provoking. Michelle has definitely made her mark that she can stand on her own with any type of music her mind is set out to do!
The album begins with fast, highly energetic paced tracks that later simmer down on the fifth song titled, "The Greatest"-a mellow mid-tempo track. After that song, Michelle softly speaks introducing the next song, "T'ill The End Of The World" with a sexy hot guy with electronica type vocals singing. The bangs, and singing combined with electronica are sensationally seductive, dance-infused, and addictive. Throughout the entire listening is a very "unique" dance club ambiance combined with funky styles definitely catchy, entertaining and fun. There is also soulful and hip-hop elements as in songs like "Hungover". Overall, most of the tracks are highly paced with just a few mid-tempos.
Hip-hop freaks will get pleasure on "We Break The Dawn (Part 2) Featuring FLO RIDA" as he has excellent rap skills! It's a club banging head bobbing, thigh vibrating, hip shake funk meshed with hip-hop, dance, and club party vibes on full effect! This has P*A*R*T*Y written all over it. The way the heavy bass, fast rhymes, rap, and music blends is definitely the kind to blast the speakers, or as you're cruising, or just enjoying!
For the disco fans or dance junkies, the other version of "We Break The Dawn" and the remix [Japan Bonus Track] of "We Break The Dawn" have a phenomenal 80's vibe even referencing the disco lights giving it a more dance-friendly club style definitely varied as compared to the Part 2. Both contributing a different experience yet both excellent!
*This is a 15-track Japanese Import and includes the bonus tracks: "Hello Heartbreak" (Lost Daze Deep Inside Mix) and "We Break The Dawn" (Karmatronic Remix Radio Edit). The disco lights reference and spiraling 80's is highlighted considerably--on that last remix. The lyrical booklet is in Japanese text as the inner booklet has the words to the songs. The artwork is classy, exotic, and very sensual without revealing. The added dance mixes are excellent and a much added funk for dance-aholics, party people, die-hard fans, club junkies of nights at the dance-floor and the soulful sassy fans who want to feel uplifted, renewed, and recharged to feel brand new--just a dose more!

REALLY unexpected, but AWESOME CD! Aug 13, 2009 First of all, you get Destiny Child's SEXIEST voice, you apply it toward saavy, beat-heavy Dance/Club tracks and you end up with an incredible CD! Twice, she hit #1 position on the Dance chart with the first single, "We Break the Dawn" and then with "Hello Heartbreak." How good does it get? Sadly, the CD was not promoted. CBS/Columbia, the record company, is to blame for this horrendous oversight. B.E.T. wasn't feeling it either due to the fact that "they" expected her to stick to her Gospel roots, which personally, NEVER worked for ME. Fortunately, she took a bold step in a more contemporary direction and it paid off. Though the album sold poorly, it was a critical success. If you are a fan of either Madonna's "Confessions On A Dancefloor" or Cyndi Lauper's equally as amazing "Bring Ya To The Brink," you will, no doubt, embrace this effort. It's very different from her normal "sound," so let it work on you gently at first and keep an open mind as you submerge inside it. It could take a few listens, but you'll know when you're hooked. My favorites include the two aforementioned "hits" and "Stop This Car." This is NOT a typical voice in R&B today and that's what Michelle's whole appeal IS. She's got that sexy growl-thing goin' on and she's on fire. Check it out today.
She breaks the dawn and breaks the rules! Mar 09, 2009 Michelle was always the backdrop of Destiny's Child. She was usually given the bridges and the bridges only to sing. I never really liked her voice; I always thought that it was raspy and weird, but after listening to her sophomore LP, "Unexpected", I have discovered that her vocals aren't bad at all; she just doesn't sound right with Beyonce' and Kelly. When she is on a track alone, her voice is somehow different and better. I'm glad I listened to her album. What drove me to listen to it was the first single, "We Break the Dawn." I heard it and fell in love. I immediately came to the conclusion that it was one of the best singles of 2008. It was different, but still had that great, classic R&B sound that I adore.
The tone of "Unexpected" is a blissful one. Sure, there are songs which speak on heartbreak and loss of love, but she doesn't sing them in a somber fashion. There are lots of influences of the techno sound. I commend her for stepping outside of the box in more ways than one. In fact, there is only one song here that sounds like it should have been given to her group, Destiny's Child, "Thank U". Michelle is thanking a former lover for doing her wrong, because in the end, she prevailed because of the experiences. The only true highlight of the album is "The Break of Dawn", but there are many tracks worth listening to like "Lucky Girl" and "Too Young for Love." "Hello Heartbreak" is influenced heavily by the techno sound, but it's one of the weaker moments. The techno sound really doesn't work for Michelle.
Michelle did a nice job. I like it. It's decent music, and sometimes even partially groundbreaking.
Mikeisha's Top 5
1. "We Break the Dawn"
2. "Thank U"
3. "Stop this Car"
4. "Unexpected Intro"
5. "Hungover"

I thought this CD sucked. Feb 25, 2009 It almost seems like she's getting the left over material from Beyonce and Kelly. I thought we break the Dawn was awful. I mean seriously? She could have done alot better. I remember, the rest of the tracks on this album were just as bad as well. i can see why BET did not want to play her videos. She can really sing(saw her on broadway), but this seemed like a C-rated version of Lady Gaga.

Keep Doin Your Thing Michelle! Feb 24, 2009 Wow...I've always thought that there was no competition for Beyonce; I'm not a big fan of Kelly Rowland, and Michelle had yet to deviate from her gospel roots, but the results of her pop/R&B oriented music is AMAZING. I saw her album one day on iTunes and thought, Hmmm I haven't heard much from her before, lets give her a go. So I sampled all the tracks and immediately fell in love so I ordered it from Amazon so I could play it on my stereo. They are ALL my favorites; I can't pick one song. You will be so stoked when you receive this album, and if you're not sure--just DO IT, you'll love it. The songs that will entice you will be, without a doubt, Hello Heartbreak, Unexpected, We Break the Dawn, Too Young for Love, The Greatest, Lucky Girl and Hungover--then you will just naturally fall in love with the rest of the album. Next time Michelle-MORE songs. Beyonce, be afraid cuz Michelle's next album is gonna take it to another level!
