Louisiana Oct 27, 2009
I enjoy a variety of music. I can
do county, but Willie Nelson has always
been my favorite because my home is Texas.
This is great; Winton Marasalis and Willie
Nelson duo.

I expected more Oct 26, 2009 This album had me guessing what would be heard before I bought it..I am well versed in New Orleans music styles having played a lot of it in various jazz bands for years..I play the trombone..
The phrasing was ok..the instrumental licks were ok..Willie can read with the best of them...Put it all together and I expected more from Wynton..I recognise him to be a genius. I have seen him play, have listened to his many music shows on XM radio, have watched many specials that he has dome on tv..but I missed the point of the exercise here. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but maybe I expected Wynton to hit a little harder. His band preformed as expected..great Dixieland point counterpoint..good solos..good phrasing. If only Wynton had gone a little deeper into his bottomless bag of musical knowledge and opened up more. Willie dosen't need any introduction..He carried the ball with flair and style..I hope he plays for another 100 years.

give up Willie Oct 17, 2009 Willie Nelson once again ruins a masterful effort by Wynton and the band. How can such accomplished artists as Marsalis and even Ray himself (Genius Loves Company) not notice the complete lack of singing talent the man possesses? Certainly Willie is an amazing songwriter and performer and even managed to croak out some pretty good ballads in his native country music genre, but PLEASE keep him away from other material!

Willie Nelson, Wynton Marsalis and a great, great band. May 02, 2009 On this album, Willie Nelson sings with a jazz band led by Wynton Marsalis. The album was recorded live in January of 2007. The set list includes blues songs, country songs and pop standards. Willie's singing style works well with a jazz band, which is not surprising. Actually, Willie sounds like he always sounds, it's the music that is different. It's kind of like a Willie album with a jazz band, featuring more instrumental solos than usual. It's a very good album which Willie's fans should enjoy.

Absolute Magic Apr 14, 2009 I ordered my copy of this cd with great anticipation and I was not disappointed. The musical selections and musicianship are plain fun! I read some of the other reviews and wondered if those who didn't like the cd had even listened to it. Sadly it seems some may have decided going in that they would not like what they heard and that is a shame. They clearly missed the "music". The only question that matters here is, "Is this good music and is it something one can enjoy listening to again and again?" The answer is absolutely yes...these are good tunes, the arrangements are fun...traditional in a sense but with some refreshing takes...some in the spirit of old time New Orleans jazz, others more blues... all are well crafted and very well performed. I find myself rewinding the player to hear certain licks and chops again and again. Willie is Willie and Wynton is Wynton and the two bring what they do together in a way that is just too good to miss. I like this recording very much. I love that it is live... people don't record live much anymore...just as well because a lot of live music isn't anymore. This is a fun cd, musically worthwhile and a joy to listen to again and again. I recommend this to anyone who loves good music, plain and simple.
