Description:

While the first Twin Peaks soundtrack was fairly accessible, thanks to its gothic noir-pop atmosphere (and its three Julee Cruise songs), this CD feels a little more hermetic. Its dark charms take longer to take hold, but they’re there, all right. A reworking of the show’s famous love theme opens the proceedings, and after that the album slowly builds up a unique 1950s-influenced atmosphere, sexy in a vaguely scary way. Composer Angelo Badalamenti easily moves from warped takes on Americana ("High School Swing") to blues ("Drug Deal Blues"), from laidback jazz ("Josie and Truman") to lascivious grind ("Blue Frank"). Stars Sheryl Lee and Lara Flynn Boyle contribute vocals to "Just You" (lyrics by David Lynch), possibly one of the creepiest love ballads ever recorded. Typically, a cryptic hidden track is positioned before the first one. You must press the rewind button to access it. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5"I'm hurt bad.........."  Oct 22, 2008
This might be overstating the obvious, but this is a must have companion to the first Twin Peaks t.v. soundtrack album. This has a ton of great stuff like "Just You"(sung by James Marshall from the show, with back ups by Sheryl Lee and Lara Flynn Boyle), "Hook Rug Dance" ,and "Blue Frank". The material ranges from 50's type stuff, to eerie jazz and lounge, to eerier ambient, as is to be expected from Lynch/Badalamenti. Obviously those already fans who have some context for the music will enjoy this more, but really, this is good enough for anyone to enjoy. But speaking as one previously initiated, I can't get enough of this stuff. I wish there was another album somewhere with more of these gems from the show. Sad, beautiful, creepy and perfect for late night listening.

1A boring - snoring - triple z - disappointment  Jul 31, 2008
This CD will be very disappointing if you are hoping for anything resembling the soundtracks from Season One or Fire Walk With Me. Lots of nondescript background jazz-snare. I don't even care to use it for background ambience.

5Dear Mr Badalementi, Mr. Lynch and Absurda...  Jul 07, 2008
Please please release Vol. 3 of music from Twin Peaks, or better yet, a complete box set of ALL twin peaks tracks in your library. You know it will sell well! We have waited so long...

5So, when's CD # 3?  Jul 02, 2008
It was a pleasant surprise to find out this CD was available. The Twin Peaks mythos continues to grow, albiet slowly, years after the final show aired.

Music was, of course, central to the dark theme and mood of the show, and to find additional songs in digital quality is a treat, an unexpected one at that.

...and I gotta throw my two cents in on the song left out of the CD that should be in: when James is riding his Harley around at the beginning of that 2nd season episode, that full-reverb, clean-electric guitar rock n' roll riff. That was one of my favorites!

5I SHALL REVEAL THREE TRUTHS TO YOU...  May 15, 2008
This is the first: in this world it will always be the blond leading the blind. TWIN PEAKS is a case study of great creativity getting gummed up by meddling TV executives and accountants taking more important decisions than directors. After a phenomenal first season, (against David Lynch's wishes) Laura Palmer's murder got solved in mid second season, effectively killing the impetus of the show. What was left, was a show that was too slow in finding a new direction, decelerating into vapid style and enjoying a huge cult following that is still going strong. I should know; I am a huge fan since the first time I laid eyes on Snoqualmie Falls.

This the second: your favorite childhood gum can never taste the same again. This OST reflects the shows decline in Season 2. It contains only a handful of original tunes; most tracks are reprises of Angelo Badalamenti's dreamy music. To TWIN PEAKS fans, this is a treasure chest full of timeless gems, bringing back memories of Mandy's misfortune and James' adventures. No unique tunes, though, and nothing to rival the original and timeless Love Theme.

And now for the third Truth: seek for the secret before the beginning.

RECOMMENDED!
