Incredible Book Nov 06, 2009 Relevant when he wrote it. Relevant today. There is a lot of wisdom in this book if you take it to heart and apply it to your life. You could read it agaqin and again and get something new out of it each time.
Deep Nov 02, 2009 The material is "Deep". This must be a part of one's permanent library since it will be necessary to visit the material from time to time.
No high literary value, but great ideas Oct 20, 2009 I did not like the language and style of the book from the literary point of view, but I thought the ideas described were very powerful.

I've Been Listening to this Audio Book About Once a Year for Many Years Now Oct 18, 2009 Don Miguel Ruiz created in my opinion as classic that will stand the test of time over even centuries. He discusses the importance of one's word and the meaning of it in life. This is a powerful book. I've listened to it numerous times and always was glad I did. I intend to keep doing so.
My review is not meant to be a gushing endorsement. I have always found the introduction to be boring and not at all a good contribution to the excellent work that follows. I find that unfortunate. I'm afraid that if I recommend this book to somebody, the first 25 minutes will turn them off as it continues to turn me off. This is my warning about the book.
The Four Agreements is a very difficult book to recommend. I've tried. There's no way I can talk about it without the person I'm talking to showing visible signs of boredom. It might be the way I describe it but I think it has something to do with the nature of the material. The rules for living one's life, the truisms, don't lend themselves to excitement when discussed.
One can see that the Toltec-based philosophy was highly developed. Those ancient people had truly complicated thought processes and used experience and logic to arrive at a very concise and yet sophisticated set of rules for living a good life. Thankfully we have not lost the hard-earned wisdom of the ancients!
Here are the 4 Agreements, the treasures of the ancient Toltec people passed onto us:
Be Impeccable With Your Words
Don't Take Anything Personally
Don't Make Assumptions
Always Do Your Best
The explanations underlying these agreements give them great meaning. This is a great book with in my opinion a somewhat boring introduction.
