Nice To See I Was Ahead Of My TIME ;-) Aug 02, 2010 I've been browsing the reviews of this album, which I've been saying almost since the day it came out, was Jeff Lynne's masterpiece.
I was first introduced to this album during my freshman year in college (1981), and immediately identified -- bonded, if you will -- with it. Not just one or two songs, but the ENTIRE album. And I would listen to it regularly as (pardon the pun) TIME went on. Unlike some of the other classic ELO albums ("Eldorado," "Face The Music," "A New World," and "Out Of The Blue"), all of which I enjoy immensely, this one just (again, pardon the pun) struck a chord with me.
What baffled me was that most folks (including, it seemed, Jeff Lynne) dismissed the album almost as soon as it fell from the charts. It's now gratifying to see is that so many people of a younger generation, who are perhaps tiring of the more tedious "brands" of commercial popular music (you can decide which those are), are discovering and embracing this absolute sonic gem of an ELO album!
Catchy melodies; brilliant lyrics. All rolled into a concept album that weaves an insightful and introspective tale of life itself -- and seems to reach the last track much too quickly after the first one was played.
So, for those of you who hail from my generation, and who may have long-since forgotten this album: do yourself a favor and rediscover TIME!

Fantastic journey led by a musical genius - Jeff Lynne Mar 25, 2010 Jeff Lynne is a musical genius - like Midas, all he touches turns to Gold.
Time was released nearly 30 years ago, and is one of those rare albums that you can listen to many years later and realize how prophetic and spot-on the observations are embedded in the lyrics.
Consider all the changes we have seen in that time, and listen to the album in that context. In another 30 years I believe this album will continue to have strong meaning, though we will likely need hearing aids to appreciate the ELO sound.
Listening to the remastered version of Time is a thrill to be certain. The addition of 3 full-bodied songs to the remaster is outstanding value.
I am struck how these songs were left off the album - what were they thinking??? Was it a rush to market, didn't consider them 'good enough'?
It would have been great to have Jeff's influence on the remastered version and had put these track into their proper order and appropriate segues ... Anyone know the proper order - please post????
So in 1980[?], Jeff had the amazing foresight to write - "Remember the good old 1980's, when things were so uncomplicated? I wish I could go back there again, and everything could be the same ..." Playing it in 2010, it's uncanny and accurate! Funny, I find myself saying that every day.
time Feb 25, 2010 Twilight is the best song of Time so if your a first time listener or just got it that's the best song of the CD.Some other good songs are Hold On Tight,The Lights Go Down, The Way Life's Meant To Be,and 21st Century Man.

Reconstructing ''Time'' Sep 20, 2009 I love ELO, I saw them on the "Time" tour in 1981 but it took
many years for me to really appreciate how good the album is.
(I was caught up in the 1977-era ELO)
When "Time" was re-released it was expanded with three bonus tracks
but sadly they were just tacked on to the end of the CD.
As this is my favorite ELO album, I decided to see if I could
place the three outtakes into the original album's sequence
and still maintain the feel and narrative established by
Jeff Lynne after the final mixdown in 1981.
The story in "Time" has a character that is both distinct and
delicate. It is obvious that Jeff Lynne put a lot of work into
this project and my goal was to imbed the outtakes so perfectly
that not even Jeff would notice the changes.
The first challenge was to support the original 1981 narrative.
The three outtakes were not included on the CD's enclosed lyric
sheet so I listened carefully to the words of each in order to
determine their eventual placement in the final sequencing.
It was important to maintain not only the integrity of the
story's Timeline (pun intended) but the overall flow of the
music as well. In some places the songs segued which further
limited my options.
There was but one small adjustment to make and that was just a
matter of inserting some dead air before an imbedded track. The
tempo changes and this calls for a rest in order to not startle
the listener.

I converted the CDA files to WAVs and stacked the files so that
all sixteen tracks would be a single track when burned to CD.
This was to eliminate that annoying interruption some CD players
have when playing back sequed songs.
One of ELO's best Jul 12, 2009 This has always been one of my favorite ELO albums. Because it is later in their catalog, often it is overlooked, but the whole concept album works on several levels. It's a time travel story, but with elements of lost love, technology overload, future shock, and lessons learned. I'm glad the remaster includes 3 bonus tracks that should have been on the album, they're good tunes and fit into the story (you have to find where they fit, I won't give it away).
Here is the news: buy this album!
