A must have. Jan 19, 2009 These days it's common to see singers do cover albums of Soul and R&B classics. They usually do a pretty good job, like Seal just did on his "Soul" album, or Human Nature on their 3 Motown tribute albums. But every now and then, comes along somebody who was born to sing soul and R&B music. Ryan Shaw really impressed me with his vocals and his adequacy to this kind of music. This is not entirely a cover album, but better yet, an album that offers new songs with that classic soul flavor. Definately, a must have!

Is this Ryan Shaw? Apr 08, 2008 I would've given this cd a 5 star rating but I'm afraid I agree with the 1 star rating I have seen. The title is very misleading. If you want to know who Ryan Shaw is, this cd will not help you a bit. There are plenty of remakes that are great but add nothing new. Much of this cd is a glorified cover album. With that said I'm not downing on the man. He is amazing. His voice is terrific (if you need more proof youtube him. see his apollo performance.). It is a very nice cd but its not original. He does a good job of paying homage to greats like Wilson Pickett. It is lain to see that he is having fun too. Shaw puts effort into his songs but not enough of himself.

Ryan Shaw: The new Sam Cooke???? Dec 25, 2007 If you've never heard the wonderful voice of Ryan Shaw, you REALLY need to buy 'This Is Ryan Shaw', simply one of the best releases of the year. I'm sure he will soon become a huge star among the lovers of great black voices such as Sam Cooke or Otis Redding.
What a Talent! Oct 30, 2007 This young artist has it all put together. His vocal work is reminiscent of the best R&B Motown vocalists, and he definitely pays his respects to them in his styling and passion. But Ryan is fresh and hip, not a throwback. Reminds me of a combination of Wilson Pickett and the Everly Brothers.
Great voice, old-school vibe, incredibly talented Sep 13, 2007 While visiting Chicago in early August, I heard "Nobody" on WXRT. I was hooked, wrote down the name of the artist and found out he was in Chicago playing Lollapalooza that next day and a late show at House of Blues. Tried to see him at HOB, but couldn't make it. When I returned to California, I went onto iTunes and bought the release. Amazing! I love his gospel, original Motown sound. Went and saw him last weekend in Truckee, CA and was not disappointed. He band is solid and "Tiny" rocks the bass.
His covers have emotion and energy; "Do the 45" is lovely. His orignals are excellent. "Nobody" may be my favorite single of the year.
I highly recommend getting this and, very importantly, seeing this guy if you can. You won't regret either move.
