Try Thinking More Aug 04, 2008 I enjoy covers of familiar tunes. The Beatles' work is so classic that it is always a pleasure to hear. There is some very good work on this CD and a couple that make me scratch my head. George Harrison's "Think for Yourself" was always a favorite track. Here the Yonder Mountain String Band does an excellent job with this lovely underrated melody, "Although your mind's okay, try thinking more if just for your own sake; The future still looks good & you've got time to rectify all the things that you should." The Donnas' take on "Drive My Car" puts a smile on my face, as does Mindy Smith's peppy take on "The Word." The Fiery Furnaces' version of "Norwegian Wood" sounds like someone trying to cover Patti Smith, which would work better if they were doing covers of Smith's breathtaking set Horses. Rhett Miller is one of my favorites as is the lovely "Girl" that started the Across The Universe [Deluxe Edition] soundtrack; so this is a sweet track. Ted Leo, who is not a singer I know, does an unusual version of "I'm Looking Through You" that probably would send me back to "Rubber Soul." Ben Kweller with Albert Hammond Jr. do a version of "Wait" that is fairly close to the original, which may be why I hit the repeat button when it plays. "If I Needed Someone" is one of my favorite Beatles songs; however, Nellie McKay's jazz arrangement is somewhat disturbing. I bought one Cowboy Junkies CD that I dust infrequently. Their version of "Run for Your Life" won't replace John Lennon's biting version in my head. Ben Harper's reggae "Michelle" is quite fun. This year I've bought the "Across the Universe" soundtrack and Judy Collins' exquisite Judy Collins Sings Lennon & McCartney. This Razor & Tie CD is a mix with some great high points. Enjoy!

My goodness Jan 08, 2007 I received this cd as a Christmas gift and I love it!
Important note: I have also already been listening to many of the bands that perform the cover songs on this cd and have enjoyed their music for a long time.
Which brings up an important question. Why do people perform cover songs in the first place? It is to create an interpretation of a work in their *own original style*. Therefore, you should buy a tribute album because, first and foremost, you like the bands that perform on that album.
If you want to listen to songs written by the Beatles performed by a band that sounds like the Beatles, go buy a Beatles cd!

It's Indie-Rock Guys...RELAX! Jan 19, 2006 The Beatles have and will always be my favourite band of all times but that's not to say that I have reservations about other people covering their songs. I like hearing the different versions and this album is suppose to be different...if you like the Fiery Furnaces (and I do) then you will enjoy their rendition of Norwegian Wood (like I do) and Sufjan Steven's version is also interesting as for all the other beautiful covers. This CD is not to be interpreted or to be classified under the same type (if there ever was one) as The Beatles' music. It's Indie..it's different...and it's beautiful all the same.

horrible,horrible,horrible.............. Jan 09, 2006 This cd SUCKS. I don't know what else to say. DO NOT waste your money. As a lifelong Beatles fan, and somebody who has just about every possible tribute cd to the Beatles-which numbers about 150 or so, this by far was the worst. William Shatner sounded better on his tribute album. OK, maybe I'm exagerating a little. Three or Four of the songs were OK (Drive My Car was probably the best and it was mediocre.) Save your money and buy a remastered Lennon cd or something.

Don't bother Dec 20, 2005 Why mess with perfection? I have no qualms about artists who cover the classics, but there's no connection with the Beatles' music in this CD. They just don't get it.
I bought the original when I was, well, much younger, and it sounds better all the time.
