Awesome Feb 28, 2010 I wish I had this title just before starting college--my reading and writing skills would have been more engaging and fulfilling. After reading "They Say I say" I now understand the real benefit to having a conversation with a text. The authors thought me that all text is a conversation already in process. They further thought me how to be mindful of the point of view of others, in this conversation and how to find my own voice in it. I will remain eternally grateful for their efforts in this endeavor.
I think everyone should enter into the conversation of, "They Say I Say."

Textbooks Feb 01, 2010 I used it briefly to refamiliarize myself with how to write in college, it served its purpose and it is really elementary.
They Say/I Say Jan 31, 2010 I received the book very quickly. From what the seller described the condition, I expected it to be in worse shape than what it was. They had something like Fair condition, but to me, it was in great condition. Even though the book was used, there was no worn pages, and absolutely no writing or markings in the book. I would recommend this seller to others.
Thanks!
A Must for Graduate School Dec 08, 2009 I read this book because I noticed that it was a required text for the graduate school I will be attending. I am glad that I did. "They Say/I Say" will definitely enhance my writing. I truly regret not having read this book while attending undergrad.
The authors write that in any academic text, the author should first discuss what others are saying about the topic of the text ("They Say"). The author should then present his/her argument ("I Say"). It seems so simple, but these are crucial steps that cannot be overlooked.
The book contains many other helpful strategies to implement when writing. This includes how to summarize, insert quotes, plant a "naysayer" in the text, etc.
In all, a lot of the suggestions the authors mention are usually done automatically by experienced writers, but the book will help anyone strengthen critical skills needed for effective writing. I highly recommend this book for individuals looking for a career in academia.
