Little Substance and Haphazardly Written Nov 20, 2009 I was looking forward to reading this book. Since I believe that without Talmud teaching along with the reading of the 5 Books of Moses, the Bible can be very dangerous especially when people set their beliefs on sentences that are misinterpreted without learned discussion. Many do not examine what is said in the Bible within the bigger picture of the teachings.
The author seems to select how he lives according to the bible was very haphazardly and along with some of those who say it is funny, I found it more "mocking". His summary I thought was well thought out and honest. His writing of it did not change his beliefs as an agnostic, but did enrich his gratefulness of life and his "cafeteria" of choices how he is guided by the Bible.
When he goes from pages 104 to page 155, I wondered what was left out and why. What was his daily home life like? How disruptive was this to friends and family? Why would he bring up that the Bible allows apples from trees that are less than 4 years old? That is ridiculous and certainly excludes that life, environment, technology, and more was far different thousands of years ago then those of today.
He never made clear other than being an author the purpose of this book. He stayed at the fundamentalist level and made no mention of living according to the Bible less fundamentally.
Overall, I was disappointed in the book and the author as to how someone so bright would present the Bible in such a shallow and haphazard way.

In time.... Nov 18, 2009 I recieved this book in great condition and within a reasonable amount of time. I have however not yet read the book. I usually buy books in bulk from my reading list and this is next up but after skimming through the pages I get the impression it shall be a delightful read!
Dear Arnold Nov 14, 2009 Dear Arnold,
If you are reading this, and I think you probably are, I'm sure you will be very pleased to know that thanks to the excellent placement the Seatac bookstore, I purchased you book and enjoyed it a great deal. In fact neither me nor my girlfriend could put it down, often sneaking in a couple of pages while the other went to the bathroom or to the bar when on the beach.
As an atheist, I was initially drawn to the book because I thought it would be an amusing insight, highlighting the insanity of living the bible literally. Since reading it though, I have found a new found respect for some of the teachings contained within it. I recently shocked my friends and indeed myself by referring to Ecclesiastes!
Congratulations on writing a very balanced and extremely entertaining book.

P.S. My girlfriend thinks you dad is "sooo cute"!
Funny, insightful, and helped renew my faith Nov 13, 2009 Following the journey of A.J./Jacob as he ventures to better understand the "Holy Book", provided great enjoyment. This book is funny, provides insights to the Bible that probably many who think they are faithful to the Word, misunderstand or overlook I have been struggling with my own faith in God and his plan for my life, but after reading Mr. Jacobs book and how his "Biblical year" affected him, I have a renewed hope that I can get back to that feeling of a closer walk with the Lord. Thanks to the author for giving us an insight to these experiences and a book that does not debunk or dispute God's word, but gives us a sometimes different and maybe better perspective.

Not very humble Nov 02, 2009 I expected Jacobs to follow all the rules in the Bible, but he kept breaking them. He was trying, but he made lots of exceptions and revised them to the point of ridiculousness (like stoning the adulterer with a tiny pebble). He seemed a little too proud of his own quest for my taste.
