THE must-have collection Dec 16, 2008 A long wait for many fans, and then it came. All of Duran Duran's singles from 81' to 85'. Includes the big ones like "Rio" "Hungry Like the Wolf" "The Reflex" and "A View to a Kill." Each one comes it a minature sleeve replicating the original covers. Also includes a list of all the tracks and on the flip-side: a picture of the band!
B-sides include "Khanada" "Late Bar" "Faster than Light" "Like an Angel" "Rio part two" "(Come up and) see me smile" "Faith in this Colour" & "That Fatal Kiss" (which is the final song on the soundtrack "A View to a Kill"). Also includes remixes of the singles and some "Night Versions" of select songs that you couldn't get until now (unless you have the "Night Versions" CD).
All the songs have been digitally remastered and sound fantastic. I must say this was worth the money. Especially for the B-sides, all of them are great songs!
Recommended! No fan should be without it! Also recommended: The Singles 86-95.
The "Mad Mind" has spoken.

An excellent idea, but suffers from over-compression. Dec 02, 2008 It's really tiring, listening to the newly mastered CDs and noticing they don't sound as good as even the early mastered CDs.
I end up keeping *both* versions, and listen to the original normally. If I want to hear the 'special fatures' that the remasters have, then and only then do I put them on.
Looking at the wave forms on these CDs (as with most of the newly remastered CD), you see plenty of clipping. I really wish the record companies would quit this line of thinking that 'louder is better'. It ruins so many great additions to these CDs.
'The Singles' is a wonderful recreation of all the original singles that Duran Duran put out. I would recommend it highly for anyone who followed them early in their career as I had. Again, I just wish they hadn't compressed the music. Admittedly, it's not as bad as some others I've heard/seen, but there's still no reason for it.
Finally - MP3 a la carte! Nov 10, 2008 I am so happy to see this available in the pick and choose method! I love "My Own Way" the single version, but there was no way I was going to pay $40 just for that single. Now I don't have to! Rock on, Duran Duran!
A MUST HAVE for Duran Duran fans (Duranies) Jun 12, 2008 The price on this boxed set kept me away from it for a long time. When I finally found it for a decent price on Amazon through a re-seller, I jumped on it. I am so glad that I did.
This boxed set is amazing. It is like having all of the 7 inch 45s singles (for you younger fans, that's the small vinyl records that played at 45RPM, as opposed to the 12 inch 33.3s). There are 13 disks- each with at least two songs (A side and B side), some with as many as four songs.
With this set, you get otherwise unreleased songs (not on any albums):
1. Late Bar
2. Khanada
3. Fame
4. Faster Than Light
5. Like an Angel
6. Faith In This Colour (two versions)
7. Secret Oktober (my fave B side ^_^)
8. Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)~live
It also has the "night versions" (made for night clubs, I believe) of the following:
1. Planet Earth
2. Girls on Film
3. My Own Way
4. Hungry Like the Wolf
In addition to all that, there are live versions and alternative mixes of the basic singles.
The coolest thing about this boxed set is that the CDs are individually packaged in mini-record jackets. It's just like having the actual singles in your hands when you have these. And the insert with the list of all the song has an awesome photo of the band from what looks like 1981 (they were all just so young! Nick was just a baby!! <3 LOL)
Okay, the draw-back to this set...it's a pain to load into your computer for MP3 or iPod use. There are 13 disks, so it takes some time...but that's it. Other than that, I have absolutely no complaints about this boxed set. In fact, I think every Duranie should own this!

lost classics found! Nov 26, 2007 I had most of these singles on 12" vinyl back in the day and lost them when my self-storage unit was burglarized in college. That was 17 years ago, and now I can listen to some vintage b-sides with this collection. Yes, I agree the packaging is wasteful (the entire compilation would fit on just a few CDs), but it's nice having reproductions of the original cover art, and for those who actually care about discography, it's a reminder of how the songs were originally released. In any case, unless you were a Duran Duran fan, especially their early stuff, you probably won't enjoy this set. Recommended for the over-35 crowd with 80s nostalgia.
