Best all-round boook on migraines Oct 27, 2009 Comprehensive, conversational, and packed with information, The Migraine Brain is the one book migraineurs (as we're elegantly called) need to own. To understand my own malady, I'd read case studies, science articles, and the other best book out there, Breaking the Headache Cycle. Dr. Bernstein's book addresses just about every trigger, treatment, and old wives' tale as well as the new model of migraines as a neurological "storm."
Her tone is balanced, advocating for both the holistic (exercise, routine, yoga) and medical (pills and preventatives). The reader can pick and choose what hits closest to home. Full disclosure, I am a patient of Dr. Bernstein's and can say this book offers every good thing about her practice. As in this book, she is kind, practical, and really pays attention to her patients.
Migraines are often an invisible ailment, and to see their weird triggers (barometric pressure? sex?) and sensible treatments (which seldom involve avoiding chocolate) named so clearly in one reference book is a godsend. Highly recommended.
Very useful Oct 12, 2009 My 18 year old daughter has severe migraines. This book gave her a structure to explore her migraines and develop a plan for managing them throughout the duration of the headache. We both found the information contained in The Migraine Brain empowering.
Excellent book with useful information Sep 15, 2009 I've suffered from headaches my entire life, but it wasn't until two weeks ago when I had a severe migraine (aura, loss of words, inability to walk, vomiting, excruciating headache) that I realized that my headaches were most likely migraines. After doing some research on-line and on Amazon, I ordered this book based on the positive reviews, and am very glad I did.
The author provides excellent information about all aspects of migraines: explaining what migraines are, determining if in fact your headache is a migraine, determining your triggers, looking for solutions/treatments, and asking questions of your doctor or neurologist.
While it is true (as another reviewer noted) that you can find much of this information on-line, I'd rather have all of the information in one place. On top of that, this book definitely seems to have the most up-to-date, current research about migraines and their treatment.
After reading this book, I realized that the "sinus" and "tension" headaches I've been getting since I was a young girl have most likely been migraines, and I now have a plan of action for dealing with them. Armed with the knowledge from this book, I am seeking treatment to keep my headaches under control.
Informative Book Sep 04, 2009 This is a very informative book. I do not actually have migraines, but I learned alot about how migraines are being treated today. I think that I am very lucky not to suffer this horrible fate, but if I did have migraines, I would be better prepared to deal with them, having read this quality book.
It arrived in perfect condition.
Having all your problems validated in reference to migraines May 31, 2009 This book helped so much. It was wonderful to read all the things that I thought were just my issues and to learn that they are normal and most migraine sufferers experience some of the effects if not all.
Her writing is clear and concise and easy to read. Her suggestions are easy to follow.
