A Bedtime Reader of American History May 02, 2009 So I have no time to read and when I saw this book, I was really excited because it is set up to give you maximum amounts of information in minimal amounts of time.... one page per day and there are several topics that are assorted week to week. I actually make time to read the single page and really enjoy what I read. There is a basic idea of each concept and then it is broken down into details, followed by four or five trivia points at the bottom. The book provides a whole year of information and for the price is a great buy. It's like taking a college course in the subject!

Too Cool! Apr 08, 2009 I forgot this book I was reading at home one day. I was at work and had gotten into the habit of reading during my break. Feeling a bit irritated by not having anything to read, I noticed someone had left this book near my work area. It had to be the property of someone on another shift, because no one I knew claimed it. I kept taking it with me on my breaks every day and at first tried not to move the cool book mark feature and instead hid a piece of paper where I left off. In time I noticed the book mark wasn't moving, so I started using that. After a while people kept making geek comments at me for being so absorbed in it. One day, it "accidentally" came home with me. I didn't really know I was fascinated by history, but apparently, I am. A lot of stuff really blew me away.
I especially loved the foot notes. My husband is now reading it and he's just as absorbed as I was, and he's not an avid reader. I have some kind of a learning disorder, where I have to read things a few times to really understand it. This wasn't that pressing and even when I did have to re-read, it was so interesting that it was enjoyable. I didn't want to miss one word. I bought the other two devotionals and they will have a life long home on my shelves.
If you're interested in history, or you're a bathroom reader, this is a perfect way to learn the fundamentals of American History, without the strain and pain of lengthy boring material. It's also humorous and a bit controversial at times, which keeps it very entertaining.

First glance, obvious error Jan 26, 2009 I bought this as a gift for someone who is a history lover. Upon opening the gift and turning to an entry he found an entry about the civil war. The entry stated the beginning of the civil war was in the 1960s. I'm not sure there was much editing beyond a spell-checker for this to get through.
Fantastic Book! Jan 09, 2009 This book should be on every bookshelf! It is a great read and the one page story format makes it easy to pick up even when your time is short. It is very informative and interesting and makes a great gift too.
I gave this book to several people on my Christmas list who I know enjoy learning more about history. Every one of them loved it! I highly recommend it.
The Intellectual Devotional: American History Jan 07, 2009
My wife and I have been reading this book daily for three months and
found it so helpful that we sent a copy to my daughter. It is very well written, putting historical events and characters in context, adding new information and increasing our respect for our nation and its leaders.
