the essential Jonny Cash 1955-1983 Nov 19, 2009 I was very impressed with this purchase. I order this box set for my brother, who has wanted my box set. So a friend informed me to go to Amazon.com and they will have this box set. I was so surprise and my brother was even more surprise when he received it. Thanks so much, and it is so comforting to have this service at my finger tips. Congrads on a job well done.
QUESTION? Jun 22, 2009 I can't decide whether to buy this set or the four-disc"The Legend." How are the liner notes in this set? Does it give good info on each track, where and when the song was recorded and who played on it? [...]
Hello, I'm Johnny Heering. Apr 12, 2009 This three CD box set covers Johnny Cash's music from 1955 to 1983. It starts with 15 Sun Records songs and the rest of the material is from Columbia Records. The songs are more or less in chronological order, with some songs being shuffled around a bit to group thematically similar songs together (such as western songs, prison songs and gospel songs). All the material here is great, but since Cash recorded so much great material, a few things were bound to be left off. After all, he had over 100 chart hits during this time period and there was only room for 75 songs here. But they included a good mix of big hits and lesser known songs, which makes for a satisfying listening experience.
The Essential Johnny Cash Three Disc Box Mar 19, 2009 I highly recommend this set, it's out of print, but can still be found, and offers so much more than the two disc title of the same name, and the newer "essential 3.o" It would be a great gift for any fan of Johnny Cash, or a starter album for a newer fan. Most of the hits are there, and some rarer songs that are hard to find.
The Essential Johnny Cash 1955-1983 Mar 18, 2009 I purchased these 3 CDs as a replacement for the ones that were stolen. Even though I still have his original music of the 50s on records I wanted to ensure that I would still be able to still listen to the music of one of the greatest song writers, composers and singers of our time. I remember hearing one of the first of Johnny Cash's recordings, Cry, Cry, Cry, in 1955 and noticed the different and unusual sound of his music. I was so struck by the base rhythm of Luther Perkins' guitar and John's rangy and raw voice that I ordered the 45 recording right away. These three CDs contain, what I consider to be, the best of the best by the master of country music.
