Description:

Depending on your age, the name Cheyenne Kimball could be familiar to you for one of a number of reasons. She took her first step on the ladder of fame when she won the 'America's Most Talented Kid' competition in 2003--singing her own song--at the age of 12. The Texas teenager then signed on with MTV to document her rise to fame on reality TV; instead of highlighting her flaws, the show served to affirm her sincerity and talent. Three years after inking a recording deal, The Day Has Come is Kimball's musical result; true to her abilities, she has co-written every song and played guitar on nearly every track.

Still, there are many heavy hitters contributing to this disc, from The Matrix to Chantal Kreviazuk (who co-wrote much of Avril Lavigne’s last CD) to former members of Blind Melon. The question remains: is she a compelling young celebrity who can somewhat carry a tune, or a good musician who happens to have benefited from prime TV time? Judging by this disc, Kimball can definitely write, play, and sing. While still having a young voice, her control, depth, and ability to create hooks are well-showcased in the lyrically-disenchanted "Good Go Bad" and the country-infused "Everything To Lose." "Hanging On" is a catchy first single, delivered with confidence and perfect pitch. The end result? With solid tracks and powerful--but still developing--chops, Kimball is a young pop-ster with much potential, a possible future Sheryl Crow in the making. --Denise Sheppard

Cute girly songs from a pretty teen that
has disappeared from the stage and music scene /

I think they tried to clone Avril and something went horribly wrong. Yes, please, for god's sake show us 'One Original Thing.'

5Much better than it deserves to be.  Aug 19, 2009
So the powers that be in the music industry see this cute little girl that defies her age with her skills at the guitar, pluck her from relative obscurity, dress her up, produce a bunch of songs for/with her, and package her with an MTV series deal. Usually this is the making of tripe, but this album struck a nerve with me. Yeah, it's a tad bit overproduced, and it won't win any awards for being original, but THIS IS ONE OF MY MOST PLAYED ALBUMS IN THE LAST TEN YEARS!!!!! Seriously. SERIOUSLY. The songs are just fantastic, even if they're a bit undersung. It's an utter tragedy that the record company didn't let her come into her own and mature as an artist and vocalist. Cheyenne is a well of untapped potential that's being squandered as she sings backup vocals for Gloriana.

4Very decent solo debut by future Gloriana member...  Aug 04, 2009
Bottom line...very likeable and the songs are decently-written, hard-edged girl powerpop with a hint of country. Makes sense, as the songs are all co-written by Cheyenne with a series of heavy-hitters like Idol judge Kara DioGuardi and her partner Greg Wells, Our Lady Peace singer Raine Maida and his wife, singer/songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk, as well as Nashville bigwig John Rich and his partner Vicky McGeehee...interesting...plus her song "These Four Walls" was covered by Miley Cyrus on her solo "debut" "Breakout"...and it shows that Sony expected big things from her from this record, and it did OK, but it's really now viewed as a launching pad, as...

Now, she is one fourth of Nashville up-and-comers Gloriana, who recently opened for Taylor Swift's big "Fearless" tour...they're like Little Big Town but more youthful and more commercial...makes sense...they are being groomed for success and have a big single in "Wild At Heart"...Matchbox Twenty producer Matt Serletic produced their debut and it's on his new Emblem label through Reprise/Warner Bros Nashville.

I just wonder if Cheyenne got dropped from her solo deal so she could sign this new deal with Gloriana on Warners, or if she's still signed for solo records. Also, I wonder if people will be able to connect the dots and put 2 and 2 together, and rememeber Cheyenne from this very good solo record. I honestly wondered what happened to her, if she will be releasing more records, as I liked this one...then I hear about Gloriana...they befriended me on Myspace months before they released their debut...maybe before they had a deal as a group...no idea Cheyenne was in the band...until I read People's review of the record, and they mentioned her name, and it caught me off-guard, and I saw the pictures, and I was like, that IS her!!!

I'll be getting Gloriana's record this week...gotta keep up the Cheyenne collection.

5She may not be the strongest singer, but this is an incredible debut!  Nov 12, 2007
She does not have a Mariah Carey voice at all, but this is a very strong debut. Any of the first eight songs on the album could easily be singles. For those who say she is just another annoying bubble-gum pop singer, think again, her music is very original. It is actually much more of a rock album then a pop album, and filled with great guitar playing. I think her voice sounds great on the album, but I will agree that often when she performs live it sounds rough and sometimes strained. But in a way it makes her voice kind of unique. Never the less, her guitar playing is great and so are her songwriting skills. In order, the standout tracks are: THE DAY HAS COME, One Original Thing, I Want To, Hanging On, Hello Goodbye, Four Walls and Breaking Your Heart..Her rock sound is very appealing and it is great that all the young girls who follow her can be exposed to this type of music. Her MTV reality show was also a very good and intersting show for aspiring musicians and she did not come off like a know-at-all in the least. The show also helped her album become a success, despite the rumors that it flopped, the album charted at a very respectable #15 on the Billboard 200. Cheyenne's album is very good and look foward to see how her voice and styles develop on her next album. Even though it is slightly bizare that Cheyenne was able to win "America's Most Talented Kid," against great singers such as JoJo and Diana DeGarmo, I thinks she is very talented and has a promising career ahead of her.
