The Best 'Block' yet!:) Sep 04, 2009 I am a coward. I bought the NKOTB's reunion CD "The Block" months ago-and for months it sat on top of my dresser. Why? Because I could not bare to find out that perhaps they would not live up to my memories of them. Then one day I took the CD and brought it along as I drove my three nephews to the Mall. They were listening to their hip hop music and on the return trip I asked them Auntie could take a turn listening to some music-and I popped in "The Block". What can I say? I was enchanted. Delighted. OVERJOYED. They are BETTER than ever if that is possible. "Hangin' Tough' had always been my fave New Kids song-I think "Dirty Dancing" has taken that mantle. "Full Service", and "Grown Man" have also taken a hold of this old fan's heart. I love the entire CD but those three songs are the ones I listen to over and over again. I never got to see the New Kids in concert (don't ask!) but now I intend to. If their 2009 and 2010 Cruises had not been sold out I would have been there. But I will be eventually. I actually bought the red-covered "Block" first-then the blue-cover "Deluxe" edition! Well-that's a Blockhead for ya!
Buy "The Block"! You won't be disappointed! Highly recommend. :)

Already played countless times Jul 26, 2009 Now I'm sure I played my "Hangin' Tough" and "Step by Step" TAPES a ridiculous number of times, in fact, I think I had to purchase "Hangin' Tough" twice because the first cassette wore out. Trust me, while the style is slightly different, updated in my opinion, these guys still have what it takes to create a wonderful and very enjoyable album. I drove between LA and San Diego yesterday, and never once considered playing a different album.
I was playing the music at work the other day, and others were definitely impressed...it's about time people finally woke up and realized NKOTB is for real! Many of us New Kids fans have dealt with naysayers before and there are still some out there, but anyone with half an ear for decent music cannot deny the strength and quality of this album.

Back On The Block..... Jun 15, 2009 I will say, first of all, that I was excited to hear that NKOTB was getting back together. I had never had the chance to see them back in the day. I bought the V.I.P. to one of their shows and it was a dream come true! On to the review....
"Click, Click, Click" is very catchy and a great R&B tune. Joey McIntyre's voice is smoother than ever and Jordan adds that R&B feel, plus Donnie's smooth rap, this is a great way to start it off! "Single" is a smooth tune, with the guys acting as one entity, trying to find that special girl. Joey has some amazing hooks on this and his voice is better than ever, plus Donnie and Jordan really show versatility in their vocals, and they got the smooth flows of Ne-Yo, excellent job on this one fellas! "Big Girl Now" has Lady Gaga with mad sexual prowess! That hook is just cool! Donnie & Danny steal the show on this! It's catchy and cool!
"Summertime" is just a cool, relaxing tune. It speaks of summertime, taking us all back to the old school NKOTB days, when we used to chill at the beach, have a BBQ and just jam with the fellas, very nostalgic tune for us Blockheads! Joe, Jordan, and Donnie shine on this too. "2 In The Morning" is my favorite song on this disc. It is very sensual and smooth. On the other hand, it is tender and vulnerable too. This song will make you cry and/or fall in love, if you let it.
"Grown Man" is absolutely ridiculous. I mean really. I know the guys have matured and whatnot, but the whole thing is cheesy. Then, the Pussycat Dolls add insult to injury, with their cheesy sexual mantras, I mean really, 'give you some grown man', come on guys, this track is wack!
"Dirty Dancing" is a really good jam. Red One produces the hell out of this. Jordan, Donnie, and Joe bring it to the floor for real! This is a nice club song, without the cheesy, 'love you tonight' vibe. Well Done! "Sexify My Love" is upbeat and has a catchy hook. The lyrics are subtle and get the point across, without over doing it. It's very sensual and upbeat, Jordan and Joe do well on these vocals and it is evenly produced. "Twisted" is a good song, the message is earnest and sincere. It has some cute spots, like 'tell me where to kiss it', plus it shows the happy side of love, and it's got a club vibe to is as well, this song is well done.
"Full Service" is a funky, R&B pop tune! New Edition, especially Ricky & Ralph just jam on it! Then add Donnie and Joe's smooth vocals and this song just rocks it! Danny & Donnie rock the hooks on this too. Ronnie, Joe, & Michael just tear the chorus up! This is another good song and everyone just does their part and makes this a great jam! (Incidentally, these 2 groups are just amazing, but together, wow!) "Lights, Camera, Action" is very funny to me. It sounds like they are starting to make a porno or something. Joe, Donnie and Jordan really do well in describing the scene(s), Donnie and Jon provide great, yet smooth backing vocals, this song is good.
"Put It On My Tab" features Akon. Again produced by RedOne. Jordan comes out swingin for the fence on this one! Joe and Akon have great supporting leads and Akon's rap is just sick! Danny's hooks are subtle and smooth too. (Incidentally, Danny Wood is a great singer, just check out his solo stuff, you will be blown away by Second Face) "Stare At You" is very beautiful. It is poetic and honest. Donnie, Joe & Jordan provide some vulnerable performances here. "One Song" had a cute intro with Donnie and his son. This song starts with an R&B vibe and then jumps off into a pop jam! Joe, Donnie, and Jordan are just great here! Donnie really can wear many hats, his vocals are smooth!
"Don't Cry" has a calypso/R&B vibe. The song, as a whole isn't bad. Jordan and Joe have cool leads. It is a romantic song, without overdoing the main message, but my only critique is that it is too slow, but a good song nonetheless. "Officially Over" is sort of prophetic, seeing this is their last go around. It starts with, a beautiful piano solo, then erupts into a party cut! Joe & Jordan have nice flows and it is all about love and love lost, very nice. Then Danny & Donnie have some rapping hooks towards the end, cool! "Looking Like Danger" is an upbeat way to end the CD. Jordan & Joe rock out with this. Just dancing and getting close to a lovely woman on the dance floor, although she isn't their wife, LOL. Donnie has some smooth vocals on the chorus too.
This CD has been long awaited and probably was never going to happen. I am glad that the guys got back together for this and even Jonathan was on board too. Thanks for the great memories of yesterday and the new ones too. You have made a long time fan's dream come true, a new CD and meeting you too (Oct 3, 2008 Cleveland, Ohio V.I.P Group "P"), was an experience of a lifetime! (Truth be told, if this CD was released back in 1994, instead of Face The Music, it would have taken the R&B world by storm!)
Even if you were never a fan, this CD is one, done by artists, not kids and it is a great way to leave a lasting impression on the fans. You guys will be missed!
