Nashville finally gets it!!!!!!! Nov 22, 2009 After staying away from country music for quite some time as Nashville has produced the "flavor of the week" for so long, I could not believe that Jamey Johnson was invited into the "fold". He writes, he sings, he's true to country roots (and his songs sometime bring me back to my all time favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd.) Jamey, I don't know how you cracked the code in Nashville, but they really need to take a lesson from your music. I think the days of the cutie lookin good but can't sing, write or play are over!!
Fantastic, refreshing pure country/blues Nov 12, 2009 Damn, this CD is good stuff. Johnson has an amazing voice, songwriting talent, and a delivery that has me reaching for the Jim Beam with almost every note he sings (and I don't drink!). This man should have won best new artist at the CMAs. Darius Rucker is ok, but he's certainly not new or the best.
Keep it up Jamey. I'm waiting for the next one.
True Country Oct 18, 2009 A long overdue country album! The last song of the album says it all...somewhere between Jennings and Jones. This is easily one of the best country albums in years! Not one bad song. You won't be disappointed. George Strait or any of the other country greats.
Real Country Oct 16, 2009 I'm a big fan of real life. People aren't perfect, but there is room for redemtion. I really love songs that do more than just entertain. This CD does both. Every song isn't a winner, but the title track, In Color, The Last Cowboy, and High Cost of Living, make the whole album worth it. Add in the entertaining Place Out on the Ocean, Mowin' Down the Roses, and Between Jennings and Jones, and this is a 5 star country album.
Hardcore Country at it's best, dark, dirty and raw! Jul 21, 2009 Jamey Johnson is the real thing - outlaw, hard-man, singer of dark, dirty, raw and true country music. This is probably the greatest country music recording by an artist for a decade. There is not a cliche in sight here, every song sounds fresh, new & different. The voice: a man who has lived, drank Whiskey, been there and done it. The backing band blend with Johnson's guitar playing to sound absolutely live. This could easily be a live album. Country music doesn't get any better than this.
