Black Joe Lewis is the Bomb! Oct 15, 2009 I am thrilled to hear a modern band put out current music with the groove and musical make up that make me start singing along before I even know the words.

More appreciated live rather than inside on your stereo Oct 11, 2009 Tell `Em What Your Name Is! is the first, and probably last, album of the soul/funk genre that I own. It's simply not my thing, so take from my review what you will.
Several years ago I saw Robert Randolph open for Eric Clapton and was fairly impressed with the jam style. I don't go out of my way to see or listen to these types of bands, but I do appreciate some good upbeat music at an open air festival, or just outdoors in general (like a backyard gathering). I have to say that the organ is one of my least favorite instruments, though. Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears incorporate the organ of course, but it's tolerable I guess.
I like the guitar work the most, as I usually do for most artists. It's very bluesy. Joe Lewis has a distinct James Brown flavor, so if you like James Brown, enjoy. Overall the music is funky, bluesy, and above all lively. That said, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears would be more appreciated live rather than inside on your stereo. I think the vibe would be so much better live.
Funky, Horn-Fueled Soul/R&B Shouter Revival Sep 24, 2009 This album is a heck of a lot of fun to listen to. Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears do a very admirable job recalling the classic funk-infused & horn driven R&B records of the 60's. Like other reviewers, I find their style very reminiscent of the great James Brown, even down to Mr. Lewis' powerful & highly-energetic vocals. At only 30 minutes in length, the only real fault I found with this album was it left me wanting more when it was over. Do yourself a favor, get this CD & travel back in time with this collection of what [...] called "hip-shaking old-school groove". Highly recommended.

Good band; poor singer. Sep 22, 2009 The musicians are fine, but the singer is a real disappointment. I saw the band last night on Craig Ferguson's show, and it honestly sounded as though Lewis was singing in the wrong key. Then again, his vocal range seems to be so limited that it's hard to tell. He's certainly no James Brown.
Good stuff Sep 18, 2009 I heard this band on internet radio and bought the CD. The whole album is great, kind of James Brown-ish with a rocking beat. I will definately buy more as they are released and I'm hoping they tour the North East.
