4"I am the one who chose my path, I am the one who couldn't last..."  Aug 28, 2010
Ever since the late 90's, Korn has always been one of my all-time favorite rock bands. I own three of their albums (Follow the Leader, Issues, & Untouchables), and I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to their two earlier albums (self-titled debut & Life is Peachy). For a long time, however, I've never ventured into their later music (with the exception of the songs "Coming Undone" and "Throw Me Away") until now. I had a chance to listen to Take a Look in the Mirror, and I have to say that I wasn't disappointed. Sure, it's not really up there with Follow the Leader & Issues, but it still has a lot to offer. Unlike Untouchables, this album has a darker and much more intense sound that Issues and Follow the Leader have been associated with. Songs like "Counting on Me," "Here it Comes Again," "Did My Time," and "Alive" feature signature Korn melodies. "Y'all Want a Single" is probably the most notorious song on the album due to the how many times the F word is said, but it's still a great song.

If you're fan of Korn, then Take a Look in the Mirror shouldn't be such a doubt in your mind.

Grade: 8/10

4Returning to the Basic Standards  Aug 01, 2010
I loved the first two korn albums and thought they really had something going on. People remember specific hits, but I have things like Mr. Rogers caught in my mind whenever I think back on their works. The visuals, with the swingset and the shadow - it all added up to made something that commented on innocence and the possible lack of it.
That place had a game plan, even if some of it was rough.

When a certain red hat wearing "nookie" singer came along, it hurt the motion of the band. Sure, I did like SOME of the songs and, sure, I liked some of thelectronics. What I did not like was the way the band went. This led to many things, including the shelving of this disc for a long long time before I opted to take it out again.

When I took it out and compared it to other albums done by Korn, I was actually impressed. Here was an album with scratch bass, a return to old vocal styles, some old messages, and less of the modernized attempts to carry tune to the radio. and I am not trying to fault someone for radio play - i know I would like to make money as a star because money makes families work, dreams work, and can put smiles on people's faces. i just think there is a place where you can draw a line and be a little of both, knowing what madde you you and sticking to some of that. Here, Korn did some of that, returning, and I smiled listening to it again.
Believe it or not, I found that both they and I could return.

to buy? Listen and see. It is dated but it is more refined than a lot of older works SO it might set well with you. Honestly, it doesn't matter what I say on this subject because you are the ultimate expression of "yes" or "no" here and, in the end, you know best. So, check it out, give it more than one spin (one is never enough) and think on it. Me - I'm stuck just below 4, maybe even around a 3.8 or so. In real world terms that means I like it but I am not in love with it so, even here, there are flaws.

4Great Buy  Sep 12, 2009
I keep things short and sweet. There were no scratches on the CD. It was in perfect condition. I would most definitely buy from them again, and probably will.

5My favorite Korn album (yes I said it)  Oct 14, 2008

I love this album. I find myself being sucked back into it again and again. Evil / Violence - just perfect music to release some anger too. Besides "Play Me" (which is God awful) I enjoy all of the songs. Simple? Maybe, but I can't deny the bass and the hooks keep my head bopping from start to finish. Do yourself a favor and play this album loud and often.

4Heavy Korn has resurfaced.  May 31, 2007
This was a step back to "Follow the Leader" days. Some of their heaviest stuff is on this album. "Right Now" may be the angriest song they have ever made. "Did My Time" is one of my favorite Korn songs. "Y'all Want A Single" is a fun, f-bomb flinging romp. "Play Me" is a rap-rock masterpiece. If you liked their early music, this should help satisfy your appetite for heavy Korn music. I hope their new one (Summer '07) is heavier too.
