This album grows and grows on you Aug 15, 2008 I'm sorry someone else felt Joe sold out or went down hill. This album reveals that early on Joe was and has always been a masterful musician and composer. It also shows how great and a vital part of Joe Jackson
s albums Graham Maby on bass is.
This album because its live may not jump right at one's ears on the first listen, though there are parts that do. However after listening to this album a few times it becomes great. After more listens than I care to admit it has grown on me to the point that it is one of my favorite albums. It is by far the best of his many live albums. It also offers insights and access to his newer albums. I myself think his last album Rain is great.
But back to this album, it is a great combination of songs. Its an album that great to play as background or on headphones. Whenever, I hear a song off of it I end up turning shuffle off and listening to the rest.
Quite a nice surprise for this geezer... Jun 10, 2008 I had never heard of Joe Jackson, and my excuse was "What do you expect? I'm 63 years old, for Pete's sake." My son gave this CD to me last week. As a radio DJ, he knows what's good, and as my now adult male child, he knows my own tastes pretty well. He thought I might like it. Well, I do. "Summer in the City" and "Mood Indigo" and "The In Crowd" and "Eleanor Rigby" are all songs I was familiar with, being a coot, but the new and original material on here is also fine. This is rock, pop, blues, jazzy instrumentals, R & B and a tinge of folk sensibility, all in one concert. Any real music lover who gives it a listen will find something to like here.
At first I loved it. Now I LOVE it. Jan 29, 2008 I'm a long-time fan and this brings great new versions of his material and great covers of others. My only complaint is that some tracks are too short. Summer in the City, Mood Indigo and King of the World shine.
NOTE: I'm not much of a Live album fan but speaking as someone who has everything he's done this is J.J.s best.
joe jackson-summer in the city:live Mar 30, 2007 "Look Sharp" and "I'm The Man" say it all for Joe Jackson. After these gems he went the same way as Elvis Costello did(who both were born same day- same year). Downhill. They sold out. But, regardless, this disc holds its own. I'ts worth the money.

Something different for the evening... Mar 10, 2007 This is an album that you will grow to love. Recorded live in 1999 it features Joe Jackson on Piano and Vocals with Bass and Drums being his only support. In this format Jackson shows how underrated he is. Although he was initially successful during the Punk/New Wave movement of the late 70's, Jackson is in fact a schooled musician who studied at the Royal Academy Music.
He performs a mixture of some of his best songs, along with some interesting covers, such as "The In Crowd" (an instrumental hit for Ramsey Lewis in the 60's) and "Eleanor Rigby". Its all done with the passion and vigour we've come to expect from Jackson and I would have loved to have been there.
Highly recommended.
