5From start to finish another beautiful masterpiece of 80s soft rock by Billy Joel.  Nov 07, 2008
One more of Billy Joel's classics combining his magic as both an accomplished writer of lyrics and a stunning musician.

It is his first digital album covering an entire range of beats and strong emotions that will really resonate with the listener.
This is a real joy to hear.

From the fast paced rocker and 20th century history lesson in one, to the beautiful ballad of the Cold War, Leningrad.

The lower beat Downeaster Alexa, about a boat named after Joel's daughter, to the rocking "I Go to Extremes", the bluesy Shameless and "Storm Front", and the beautifully smooth and slow song So It Goes.

From start to finish another beautiful masterpiece of 80s soft rock by Billy Joel.

5Billy's swirl of energy provides the REAL storm front !!!  Sep 14, 2007
Billy Joel remains one of the greatest artists of our time. This album entitled Storm Front stands the test of time as one of Billy's better pop albums and it still sells. The songs are very well done.

The track set begins with "That's Not Her Style." After a folksy start, the piano comes in perfectly and the number quickly begins to rock hard. Billy Joel sings with all his heart and soul; and the chord changes in the melody make the number even better. Billy sings of a woman he knows well as his soul mate even though she is misunderstood by the public. Great! "We Didn't Start The Fire" picks up the tempo; "We Didn't Start The Fire" works well. This number generated the attention it deserved although Billy Joel sings the lyrics at a pace that's practically frantic and manic. Joel tries to show how fast time flies with his rock ballad "We Didn't Start The Fire." The backup chorus works well, too.

"I Go To Extremes" rocks hard; and I think it is the highlight of this album. Billy Joel sings this to perfection; his voice never sounded better. Billy sings of a man who always goes to extremes with the philosophy that "it's all or nothing at all." One reviewer points out that this is a ballad about manic depression--and they are right. Love the guitars on "I Go To Extremes!" "Storm Front" continues to rock hard although the tempo is definitely slower than other numbers on this CD. The guitars, brass and drums work well to carry the melody; and Billy sings this like the pro that he is! The backup chorus adds to "Storm Front" very nicely.

"Leningrad" has a beautiful piano arrangement and Billy sings this heartfelt number very beautifully. "When In Rome" also rocks hard from the word go and Billy never misses a beat! The backup vocals and the drums enhance "When In Rome" very well. Awesome! The final track, entitled "And So It Goes," is rather pensive and the slow tempo works wonders for this instant classic. Billy sings "And So It Goes" with a great piano accompaniment; and when the other musicians play the number takes flight!

The liner notes provide the lyrics for each song; and the artwork reflects good judgment.

Billy Joel will never be forgotten. His fine artistry is just too good for people to leave his recordings gathering dust on some warehouse shelf. I highly recommend this CD for fans of Billy Joel; and people who want a fine Billy Joel album would do well to get this CD.

Enjoy!

4Billy Joel - A Nice Late 80's Return To Form  Jun 12, 2007
"Storm Front" was an album that Joel recorded after he had the experience of being one of the first western rock stars to play in the Soviet Union the year before. The experience is reflected in some of the songs here especially the excellent "Leningrad". The album was produced by Foreigner main man Mick Jones and I have always thought this was one of Joel's stronger efforts and a return to form after several mediocre albums in the mid to late 80's. The album had two monster hits "We Didn't Start The Fire" and "I Go To Extremes" both of which are good songs. The third single "Downeaster Alexa" did not make as big of a splash, but I think it is one of the best songs he has done in it's description of career Fishermen in the Atlantic. Other highlights include the title track "Storm Front" and the previously mentioned "Leningrad". On the more average side Joel includes several love songs to his then wife model Christy Brinkley including "That's Not Her Style", "Shameless", and "When In Rome" none of which are really memorable. The album closes with a mournful tale of lost love called "And So It Goes" which is the type of song that Joel always does well. Overall I think the highs far outweigh the lows on this disc, and it is well worth a listen.

5Big improvement over the original  Jan 09, 2007
I purchased this CD when the Storm Front tour took place in the 1980's. This version has been greatly improved over the original one. I lost my old copy and bought this as a replacement. I'm so glad I did!
