Description:

Unquestionably one of rock’s greatest vocalists, Rod Stewart should have titled this album Great Rock Classics of My Time. Most of these Top 40 tunes and others like Dylan's "If Not for You" were popularized in the early to mid-'70s, when Stewart was entering his rock prime. He's perfect to croon Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," soulfully pained on Bonnie Tyler's "It's a Heartache," and right in the pocket on the Pretenders' "I'll Stand by You." And his unmistakable raspiness puts another layer of wisdom on the old Cat Steven's classic "Father & Son." But you also have to wonder about some of the safe song choices, such Badfinger's "Day After Day" and Nazareth's "Love Hurts." Why he continues to record mossy cover songs is a legitimate question. What's stopping him from getting back in trenches with some contemporary rock songwriters and really reinventing himself? The karaoke lounge is no place for a guy this great to hang. --Martin Keller

3Major Talent Wasted  Dec 14, 2009
There was a time when Rod Stewart actually WROTE great rock classics of our time, and the limp performances of jukebox favourites featured on this album sound half-hearted at best, as though many were first-time run-throughs the artist recorded out of contractual obligation rather than any heartfelt personal connection to the songs themselves. What covers can fans look forward to on Rod's next album? "Lady in Red?" "My Heart Will Go On?" Personally, I'm hoping for the "Theme from Ghostbusters..."

1Worst... Rod... Stewart... CD...EVER  Nov 19, 2008
Clearly, Rod Stewart is one of rock's best vocalists. Unfortunately, you'd never know it from listening to this CD of pure drivel and sap. This is one of those excruciating projects where everything went wrong. The bad choice of material (not necessarily bad songs at all, just bad songs for Rod to sing), lackadaisical production, and indifferent vocals from Rod all add up to one of the worst listening experiences you'll ever endure if you decide you have to have it. The only positive purpose this CD could serve is as an interrogation tool, but it would probably violate the Geneva Convention rules against torture.

5Rod Stewart........still as good as he ever was!  Sep 27, 2008
This is one of his best remake CD's. I love that he made this one and the Great American Songbook ones as well. I am personally waiting anxiously for him to make Still The Same II. And I would embrace ANY remake CD's that he wants to create and I'd pay for them without even needing to listen to samples first!!!! Rod Stewart truely rocks and hes' "Still the Same". Thanks Rod for more great music.

4Still the Same - Great Rock Classics  May 15, 2008
Just as great as all Rod's other cover CDs. What a voice! I was, however, very unhappy with Jukebox On-Line delivery of item.
