Description:

Would American Idol winner Carrie Underwood have landed a major-label recording contract without winning the hugely popular television contest? Probably. The big-voiced Oklahoman has the pipes, the look, the pedigree, and, most important, the emotional resonance to sustain a professional career. As an investment in her future, her label eschewed the easy path in putting out an album to take advantage of her publicity, going for a name producer, Dann Huff (Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Lonestar), to handle half the tracks. It also solicited material from the same top songwriters (Diane Warren, Brett James, Troy Verges, Rivers Rutherford) who stock albums by Hill, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, and Wynonna. "Jesus, Take the Wheel," the hit first single, shows off the best of Underwood's power vocals, while the sexy rocker "We're Young and Beautiful" pulls her out of her ballad-heavy comfort zone, and her autobiographical "I Ain't in Checotah Anymore" bolsters her authenticity. If the young performer oversings on occasion (the overwrought bonus track, "Inside Your Heaven"), and settles for too many generic themes, she still surprises in her ability to go head-to-head with country’s reigning females. Will Underwood really survive to be a contender for the Martina throne? Let's just say that American Idol judges and voters picked the right contestant. If the posturing Bo Bice had won, rock stars would hardly be quaking in their boots. --Alanna Nash

5Carrie Carried Me Away With This Phenomenal Debut!!  Aug 29, 2010
"Some Hearts" is the debut album of country super star Carrie Underwood, and she got it RIGHT & Perfect the first time around. This has to be one of my favorite albums of all time; ANY Genre. I own her other 2 albums and they don't even come close to what Carrie achieved with this one. It's sweet, raw & powerful in all the right places. I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!
5 years later and i'm still listening to it and it still stirs up even the most deepest emotions it did when i first got it.

1.Wasted- This song is about a girl seeing the way out of a relationship with an alcoholic, and as much as she wanting to take the way out, she doesn't want to leave him because she doesnt want all those years that they spent together go by wasted. I like how this song starts with a dark kinda melody with a guitar, and then turns into this sweet fiddle and into a powerful song! 10/10

2.Don't Forget (To Remember Me)- Again this song starts with a kinda dark and mysterious beat with a guitar, and then it turns into this sweet song about saying goodbye to your mom and family to start a new life. Although this song does not really show Carrie's Amazing vocals it's still a great input in the album. 9/10

3. Some Hearts- In this track she uses a piano instead of a Guitar to make this song sound very dark and mysterious, and makes the use of an electric guitar to follow some of Carrie's Vocals. This isnt really much of a country song but a pop/rock. I LOVE the lyrics, and Carrie's voclas REALLY stand out in this song. You only need one listen to automatically fall in love with it. It's powerful and amazing. 10/10

4.Jesus Take the Wheel- This song is about a girl going to see her parents and she's really losing faith in her life and suddenly she loses control of the car and prays to jesus to take the wheel of her car. After she sees that she and her baby are ok, she realizes the way that she has been living her life and she prays for Jesus not to take the wheel of her car, but the wheel of her life. GREAT vocals in the chorus. 9/10

5.The Night Before(Life Goes On)- A song about a girl having to leave her High School sweetheart for collage, and spending the whole day together before she leaves. Its a very sweet song with a really good chorus, the verses are pretty both lyrically and vocally. 9/10

6.Lessons Learned-Written by the Legendary Diane Warren. This is one of my favorite songs on the album. I LOVE THE LYRICS AND THE BEAT. It took me a a while to start liking it cause it's one of the more mature songs of the album, it's a reflective ballad about the bumps along the road called life. Powerful and poignant in every sense of the word! 10/10

7.Before He Cheats- This song is really powerful and shows us another side of Carrie from the rest of the album, It's in your face, it's gritty and I LOVE HER VOCALS and how she sings this song. This track has some pretty smart lyrics with this really cool beat that you're definately gonna have a hard time not singing along to it! 10/10

After "Before He Cheats" the songs start getting into REALLY POWERFUL BALLADS that are deffinately gonna touch your Soul in the most deepest way! and that are gonna leave you speechless!!

8.Starts with Goodbye- I REALLY AM SPEECHLESS about this song. THE LYRICS AND THE VOCALS are P H E N O M E N A L!!!!!! 10/10

9.I Just Cant Live a Lie-I THINK EVERYONE IN THIS WORLD CAN relate to this powerfull ballad. A MUST LISTEN!!! Haunting! Haunting! Lyrics 10/10

10.We're Young and Beutiful- Took me a while to get into this song but it's great. I like the messege, don't let life slip you by while you're young! These are the golden years, make them count! 9/10

11.That's where it Is- This is my most ultimate FAVORITE SONG EVER!!! It is a really REALLY sweet and BEAUTIFUL love song to share with that special someone in your life. It really did touch my heart and soul and i will always CHERISH THIS SONG FOREVER!!!! 10/10

12.Whenever you Remeber- A good song about reminiscing on all the good times of the past. Very sweet and touching, amazing vocals! 9/10

13. I Aint in Checotah Anymore- Awesome track, talks about how rapidly Carrie's life changed after she won American Idol. Very cool song and anyone who's had to deal with rapid changes in their life will identify with it. 9/10

14.Inside your Heaven- "THE FINALE" song is AMAZING and i'am so GLAD this song was put on this album, because this Track is so UPLIFTING and AMAZING and just makes you like this album EVEN MORE. 10/10

THANK YOU SO MUCH CARRIE FOR DELIVERING THIS PHENOMENAL DEUBT AND FOR LETTING US FEEL WHAT HEAVEN TASTES LIKE!!!!

5ONE OF THE BEST CD'S EVER  May 20, 2010
Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" is truly one of the best CD's ever. I truly enjoy listening to it and I can't find the words to describe just how amazing it is, but seeing as this is a written review, I will give it a shot. Hmmmmm...... maybe I should just do a video review, with me holding the CD and jumping up and down in EUPHORIA!!!! Maybe next time Ha Ha! Anyway onto the review:

"Some Hearts" has given me many many hours of listening pleasure and happiness. If I could, I would love to give this CD to EVERYONE so that they too can enjoy it. IT'S JUST THAT GOOD! In fact, I just did gift one to one of my friends (along with Carnival Ride) and I'm sure she will LOVE IT!

The reason I love this CD is first and foremost due to Carrie's beautiful, stunning, melodic voice. She truly has the voice of an angel. She just has such a sweet voice to listen to and it feels as if the words are coming from her heart and soul. Her voice sparkles with magic and wonder taking you to a place where all things are beautiful and magical.

Second I love this CD because of the songs. EVERY SINGLE SONG IS AMAZING!!!!! That is why this CD is a masterpiece and I AM SURE that many many millions of people have had countless hours of happiness listening to this CD. In particular the song, "Jesus Take The Wheel" may be one of the best songs of all time. You just don't get tired of listening to it, and it touches your heart and soul to the core. Along with the beauty of the music and Carrie's mesmerizing voice, it uplifts you to that place where everything is just beautiful. Simply put, it is a classic. But having said that, ALL the other songs are WONDERFUL also. Every single one of them.

GOD BLESS YOU CARRIE UNDERWOOD AND MAY YOU HAVE MUCH LOVE, HAPPINESS, SMILES, LAUGHTER AND SUCCESS EVERY SINGLE DAY OF YOUR LIFE! YOU HAVE TOUCHED OUR LIVES WITH YOUR VOICE AND YOUR BEAUTY!

4She ain't no Kelly Pickler...  Apr 12, 2010
...and that's a REALLY good thing.

I remember when Carrie Underwood won the big title on that `oh-so-famous' television talent show. I was elated. She was fantastic. I mean, she has the voice of a goddess (that's higher than an angel in case you were wondering) and she remains, BY FAR, the most deserving winner of that show.

While her debut album (and even her subsequent follow ups) have failed entirely to capture her greatness (she needs a better song writing team) there is no denying her talent when listening to her splendid voice caress each and every syllable on these collections of songs. This is not her best effort (`Carnival Ride', hands down), but there is a lot of love and praise on this debut album.

First, I just want to say that those who criticize her for being too `pop' on this album are being a tad too harsh. Yes, there are pop elements here, but that is the market these days.

She is certainly country, no ifs, ands or buts.

The album opens with a bang. `Wasted' is still one of Carrie's best tracks. It's a stunning example of her vocal range (every time she hits "wasted" I get chills). There is a darkness here that fits her as well. A lot of the tracks on the album have an upbeat swing, which I adore, but there is something about the subtle layer of `edge' on this track that separates it from the pack and gives it an extra bite so-to-speak. The one-two punch of `Starts With Goodbye' and `I Just Can't Live A Lie' also carry that darkness. They are stunning songs that compliment one another beautifully and represent my favorite moment of the album.

`Jesus Take The Wheel' is still moving and noteworthy all these years later. Yes, it has that typical `country' sentiment that can grow annoying, but it is balanced beautifully by the earnest way that Carrie tells the story. I still love this song. `Before He Cheats' is pure country honky-tonk goodness, and it starts the trilogy that proves to be Carrie's catchiest and most memorable run (`Before He Cheats', `Last Name' and `Songs Like This').

I actually love the pop influences all over the title track. It's a fun and spunky song that is catchy as all get out and, while it doesn't really do much for Carrie's talent, it provides the listener with something fun, fresh and entertaining. `Lessons Learned' is nicely done and it really reaches into Carrie's vocal abilities with some stunning results (that final chorus is just, WOW). I like the homey feeling to `That's Where It Is'. The song may be a tad forgettable, but when you're listening to it you feel a warmth, as if Carrie were sitting right next to you singing in your ear. `Whenever You Remember' has some stunning moments. It's not brilliant, but it really showcases Carrie's vocals with it's stripped down approach. `I Ain't in Checotah Anymore' is fun and playful, and while it doesn't have her best vocal it is catchy and memorable.

`Don't Forget to Remember Me' and `The Night Before (Life Goes On)' are not bad songs, but they get a little to caught up in the story and tend to meander and become boring.

`We're Young and Beautiful' is the only track where Carrie sounds screechy and just plain `off' to me. Like you can tell, I think her voice is the stuff of gods, but this song is just obnoxious to me. That chorus is horrific. `Inside You Heaven' is just a bad song. There really is nothing that can be done to save that mess.

In the end, this album is certainly worth owning. Carrie is simply magnificent, no question about it. It has its low points, but there is a lot to love here.

I'd rank the album like so.

1) I Just Can't Live a Lie
2) Starts With Goodbye
3) Wasted
4) Before He Cheats
5) Jesus Take the Wheel
6) Whenever You Remember
7) Some Hearts
8) Lessons Learned
9) I Ain't in Checotah Anymore
10) That's Where it Is
11) The Night Before (Life Goes On)
12) Don't Forget to Remember Me
13) Inside You Heaven
14) We're Young and Beautiful

5Nice Music  Mar 15, 2010
Some Hearts by Carrie Underwood is fifty-four minutes and two seconds and was released on November 15, 2005. The album spent twenty-seven non consecutive weeks at number one the U.S. Country Albums chart and reached #2 on the Billboard 200 Charts and the Top Internet Albums. The album has since gone 7× Multi-Platinum. This was Carrie Underwood debut album and did extremely well. The album contains fourteen songs including the bonus track. Six songs from Carrie Underwood debut album charted in multiple categories and two songs won Grammy Awards. The main reason I bought the CD is I had her second CD and wanted to get the first one. The music is mainly in a country genre, but with a very few songs you can hear a pop sound. Overall I enjoyed the music very much (that is coming from a person who is not a fan of country music). Some Hearts by Carrie Underwood gets an AAA+++.
