Description:

Whoever said that 'resistance is futile' must have never heard a song from Otep. Their 2009 record Smash The Control Machine is a rally cry to mobilize the apathetic and turn the establishment on its ear. Otep teamed up with the fiercely independent Victory Records and went to work on what would become the most important record of their career. Smash The Control Machine is sure to set the public in motion and urge them to march towards a new level of confidence and power. The masses have stood by with an unwillingness to react for long enough, Smash The Control Machine is daring everyone to take that first step and take some action. This record is for the impoverished, the exploited and the working class to take notice and smash whatever control machine is in their way.

4Otep Keeps Delivering  Feb 03, 2010
This album is great. Although it isn't as heavy as The Ascension it does have the unique guitar riffs and emotional singing/screaming that Otep is best known for. There are a couple songs that remind me of Sevas Tra and House of Secrets and the rest sound more like what's on The Ascension. One or two more songs would have been nice.

Bottom line is, if you love Otep then you'll love this album.

5One of the most solid albums of recent Heavy Metal  Dec 03, 2009
Held in its own place this is an album that thrums with energy and power. It keeps the dredged emotional tatter that Otep is known for (Where the River Ends, Head of Medusa, I Remember) and introduces a new vigor for an ageing band with polished, anthemic, and accessible tracks ( Rise & Smash). My particular favorite, Numb and Dumb, is lyrically solid and has fun guitar shreds, vocals that pierce and shake, and drums that power through beautifully the entire track.

You'll find the entire album filled to the brim with interesting directions, and really heavy guitar (Unveiled sticks out in my mind) that resonate differently on every listen. Hell, even the ballad "Ur a WMN Now" is even kind of cute - which is an abruptly ended cuteness when Serv Asat pounds through the speakers. There is that air of dismal rage, despair, strength, and wretch guttural anguish... that sense of release... thats laced into the production and makes it its own endeavor.

Needless to say, not a disappointment in the least. I hope to see them live.

5First OTEP Album  Nov 04, 2009
I was very impressed with this album. I had not heard of her prior to about 1 month ago, heard about her through Victory Medal, and honestly a great album. Music is raw, original, and well composed. Lyrics maybe a little more subversive than I like (I am a suit), but definitely worth getting.

5awesome c.d.  Oct 30, 2009
I would say that this is one of the most awesome c.d.s I have bought in a long time. And the female singer can belt it out like no other. I am very satisified with my purchase.
