extremely dense album Oct 13, 2009 I'm quite surprised by the seemingly polar reviews for this album. I would probably attribute this to the fact that a lot of people listen to music with two distinct handicaps: (A.) An opinion hinging upon/focused on vocals. (B.) An unwillingness to revisit and re-evaluate how they feel about a song or an album.
I highlighted the vocals because they are especially polarizing. While, admittedly, during more pop-minded phrases they can come off as a little bubble-gum, overall I feel that the intentions of the singer in wildly sweeping from hoarse screams to guttural growls to saccharine belting was simply to mimic what is happening in the instruments around him. And I think it works.
I didn't quite "get" this album the first time I heard it, but as the title of this review suggests, this album is incredibly dense, and I would suspect that even most "fans" such as myself, had to digest this work in pieces. By that I mean: I heard more and more every time I listened to it, up until I was able to survey its entirety. Each song is composed of many layers; often times each layer contributing its own melodic and rhythmic sensibilities to a larger shifting mass that constitutes the melody you interpret.
Any music fans with a penchant for dissecting music and an ability to give repeat listens to this challenging work will be rewarded by it's complexity. I have heard SEA's previous work and I feel that it ALL pales in comparison to this album.
Everything wrong on the perfect day haha! wtf Mar 06, 2009 This album was my introduction to SEA. I thought it was amazing until i heard "everything perfect on the wrong day" and then talent. i was listening to sick and undeniable and original talent! Regardless i kept coming back to some songs on this album and i still do. Steadily i realized this self titled s*** is infectious, even if the 1st cd was, and still is in my opinion, the ripest part of their fruit. SEA 2nd release is melodic, it's angular in it's own unique techno-esque way, and subtle in it's sincere lyrics.. And i keep thinking if only there were more than 3 freag'in reviews for "everything perfect on the wrong day"! CRAP! what are we listening to these days anyway? Self titled is a great album. but i can't help wondering what if SEA was more widely recieved with thier first ep.
NOT THERE BEST WORK Jan 26, 2009 IF YOU HAVE HEARD SKY EATS AIRPLANE'S EVERYTHING PERFECT ON THE WRONG DAY, THEN YOU KNOW HOW UNIQUE AND TALENTED THIS BAND IS. THIS ALBUM IS NOTHING LIKE THE PREVIOUS ALBUM. THIS ALBUM IS VERY WATERED DOWN AND ALMOST RADIO FRIENDLY. THE UNIQUENESS GOES AWAY ON THIS ALBUM AND IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING YOU WOULD HERE ON A GOOD CHARLOTTE ALBUM. I LOVE THIS BAND, I HATE THIS ALBUM.

Naw-- it isn't workin' Nov 14, 2008 Sky Eats Airplane's EP- was great. In fact, maybe one of the best EP's I have ever heard. It mixed brutal screams with techno synths and beats. That style made SEA unique and overall, amazing. But In this self-titled album, they got a new screamer.. and new band members. It's a totally different band now. No techno synths or beats. Just a new lead singer who sounds like he's choking on gravel. It's just not that great.
