2The sad thing is, this is only an EP  Aug 15, 2007
The Pack emerged at the height of the hyphy movement with the product placement song "Vans". So why didn't more people buy their album Skateboards 2 Scrapers? Why, even, didn't "Vans" become a hit like several other songs about shoes?

Well, it's like this: let's take Run-DMC's "My Adidas" or even Nelly's "Air Force Ones". Those songs caught on because those brands of shoes are AFFORDABLE for the average customer. Yeah, Vans are more conservative than they were, say, ten to fifteen years ago, but I don't think there are many hip-hop kids that are sportin' those. That's like making a song that boasts, "Check out my Rockports!"

Anyway, the rest of the album isn't that great either. The following track, "I'm Shinin'", is a disposable track about bling, and aside from the obligatory end-of-album remix-of-the-first-single (featuring Too $hort, although all he's doing is talking), everything else is about sex, and while the beats are dope enough, the lyrics aren't: see "Oh Go" or "Ride My Bike" (who refers to their goods as a bike, anyway?). And if you don't have the version of the album that includes "Dum Didi Dum", consider yourself lucky.

The Pack is an adequate name for this bunch because a three-pack of this same album will probably sell for $3.99 in a month or two. Skateboarding rappers might have been cool in 1990, but the concept doesn't hold much weight NOW; that with the unvaried subject matter and dismal lyrics won't make you look forward to the group's full-length.

1Straight 2 The Crapper  Dec 20, 2006
There's a new trend in hip-hop; skateboarding emcees. Pharrel started the trend with his Skateboard P. alias, and then Lupe Fiasco came along with his hit-single, "Kick, Push." Now The Pack is coming out of the Bay, with a song dedicated to the skater's choice of kicks; Vans. This single has done very well for a mostly-independent release; what could this be attributed to? The catchy the beat, the fly flows, or the simple product exploitation? Whatever it is, "Vans" is an addictive track, but, while it's worth repeated listens, it's also nothing more than a novelty track. So, how do The Pack fair when they stray away from the novelties?

The second track, "I'm Shinin'," sounds promising at first, but as the first emcee steps up to kick it, things just fall completely flat. The chorus is ear-piercing, and the beat is just too unpolished for this track to ever amount to anything. When the second emcee mention Young Dro's "Shoulder Lean" dance-fad, it's enough to make you vomit. The rest of this track is hard to endure, and I can promise you, one listen to it is more than enough.

Track three is "Ride My Bike," and this just continues the downward spiral track two created. The fact that the Vans bassline is found within this track is almost insulting, and The Pack's subject matter(skateboarding, sex, and jewelry), or lack there of, really showcases that in a group consisting of four emcees, none of them possess a single amount of creativity.

You'll quit listening to "Candy" after ten seconds. There was a hyphy-esque track of the same name found on Snoop's Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, and it's just, not even exaggeratingly, infinitely better. This is just plain garbage.

What's "Oh Go" about? The same thing every track but Vans has been about; sex. "Freaky Bopper"? Same story. If you thought the Ying Yang Twins were obssessed with sex, you haven't seen anything yet. The Twins look like EPMD when compared to the Pack; that's just how utterly horrible The Pack proves to be on this debut EP. The "Vans(Remix)"? Same beat, it just features Too $hort and Mistah F.A.B. I couldn't care less about F.A.B., but I'm so dissapointed in Too $hort. I've heard he signed The Pack after hearing one of their songs on the radio; I pray it was "Vans," and nothing else found on this album. The "Vans" single showed the Pack had promise, but this EP puts them in the same league as Dem Franchize Boyz and D4L. Even if you enjoyed "Vans," avoid this like the plague; it's disgustingly horrible.
