Sooo Glad I Bought This CD Sep 15, 2009 My kids and I watched Shrek the Musical in New York this summer so I knew the quality of music that was on this CD and it delivers. The songs are originals from the play and none are from Shrek the movie. I thought we'd listen to only a few songs out of it, however, my kids and I have listened to this CD in my car so many times that we know all the songs by heart. Some are funny and they are all entertaining. We love it and are sooo glad we bought this CD!!!
Enjoyable, but... Sep 03, 2009 The cover art shown on Amazon isn't the same as the art on my CD case, which is a white background with Shrek and Donkey cut-out silhouettes within the large green word "Shrek" and "The Musical" in bold black letters below that. The CD case is the "but" in my review title. I'm all for using the eco cardboard, but the CD and the enclosed booklet have to be slid into tight slots that rip way too easily. I hope in the future that recording companies who choose to be eco-conscious will design their packaging to withstand the simple act of removing a cd. Perhaps the new cd art indicates they've redesigned the package since the cd was first released back in March. (I also notice Amazon is now listing this as the London Cast Recording for some reason. Odd, since the show hasn't opened there at this point.) The musical itself is fun and light, and the leads sing well. The lyrics, particularly for the fairytale creatures, contain silly anachronistic references here and there that always ring false to me (much like some of the dialogue/one-liners in the original films; anything for a laugh) but it's still a pleasant way to spend an hour. Just use extra care handling that annoying cd case.
I was surprised. Aug 20, 2009 When I first bought this CD I wasn't sure that I would listen to it more than once. To my surprise I found that some of the songs were quite catchy and made me want to listen again and again. I do admit some songs are a bit off,(no I'm not going to list them you can decide for yourself) but on the whole it's a pretty good album.
Shrek the Musical Misses The Bog Aug 15, 2009 Shrek has had a long and successful movie run. That run helps make this musical a success, but it also acts as a limiting factor on the the music, the musical and this cast recording. This show makes those who know the movies happy because it endeavors to closely follow the story line. The effect is that the film has dictated song placement and thus the music and lyrics by Jeannine Tesori and David Lindsay-Abaire, moves the story line, but in itself is not very creative and though there are some good songs in the show, there is nothing that I believe will be lasting. That being said, those that love the films and thus the musical will find this cast recording a good story telling record.

Shrek the Musical CD Jul 20, 2009 The wonders of broadway has again sent out a hit for all to enjoy. Shrek the Musical is pretty true to the original movie but the music has a bit more of the characters to enjoy. Definitly for kids about 8 and over to understand some of the jokes but the sound track is another toe tapping, rib tickling disc of fun to share with the family! My favorite song is the battle between Fiona and Shrek on who has had the worse life so far! Nothing like comparing a flaming hiney to having to boil your chamber pot daily due to lack of a toilet! You'll love the more indept insight of the new inhabitants of the swamp! The whole family will love to keep listening to it over and over again!
