What's Old is New Jan 04, 2010 My 15 year old daughter is now into Run DMC so I bought her this CD. It's funny that what I was listening to at her age she is now listening to. It has all the hits you remember from Run DMC.

Damn, these guys had style! Mar 17, 2009 Tougher Than Leather: The Rise of Run-DMCHidden Souls 2
I never got caught up in the arguments of who the greatest rapper is. For that matter, who is the "greatest" of anything? For me, people do wonderful, fascinating things. Sometimes, they leave an impression on you that lasts for a lifetime. When I think about the history of Hip Hop and Rap, I can't do so without thinking of Run D.M.C. For me, these guys cemented rap music as a viable form of expression for urban youths. Yeah, back in the day we all wanted to be like Run, D.M.C., and definitely like Jam Master Jay! Who can forget the tracks "Sucker MCs", "Peter Piper" or the coolness of "Rock Box"? If dope ever spun on wax, it rotated to the sounds of this crew.
Not only was their music very cool, this rap group had their own style of dress. Everything from the shell topped Adidas sneakers to their trademark leather jackets, and Lee jeans. Personally, I never got into dressing like them but I always wondered if the aforementioned companies paid them to promote their line of clothes. Albeit, no one ever accused these guys of being the greatest rappers. Even now as I listen to some of the songs I have to admit quite a few of the lyrics are rather corny. Corny as they may seem, they always remind me of the days when rap artists were creative and not formulaic. There was a time when the rappers and DJs could be cool, expressive, and not so misogynistic and foul. Yeah, those days existed and it wasn't too long ago.
I think I'll forever love Run D.M.C. For me this is where it all began and it's nice to revisit the old scene every now and then. Here's to the memories.

Forgot how good they are... Aug 29, 2008 i am NOT an expert or afficianado of rap. i like some rap, not all...but this is SUPERB!! theres nothing blatantly obscene about it, so you can play it in the car with the kids...the background melodies and samples are SOOOO danceable. and the songs are very very catchy. i mean, come on...you be illin'? christmas in hollis? you know you love it! and my 5 yr old now responds to "can you rock it like this?" with "i can rock it like that!"
JUST BUY IT!!

Running on a full tank Jul 24, 2007 Run DMC seems a bit dated in a way, an artifact of the 80s, but that might be a good thing. Their raps are free of the celebration of anti-social behavior that's found in a lot of current rap. It's not sissy stuff, but you can listen to it without worrying if children are around. Their stuff has a heavy beat to it, it's kind of like rap/rock. Maybe that's a big part of why they had significant appeal to white kids and broadened the audience of rap. Indeed, Run DMC is one of the lead rap groups ever, largely because they were instrumental in taking rap mainstream. I'm an 80s white kid, and these guys are some of the first rappers I remember listening to. One criticism might be that a lot of the raps sound the same, at least as far as the beat goes. The raps are usually pretty fun and sometimes humorous. Like I said, it's stuff you can listen to "in the open." With over an hour of raps, this is a good buy, especially for those looking for some 80s culture.
