Re-released "Rise" rocks! Jan 03, 2010 A terrific re-release of a great album. This was Herb's big comeback and it receives respectful treatment here. The liner notes are ample and the sound is wonderful. Two bonus tracks add to the pluses, though the alternate take of "Rotation" is pretty flabby. And, the album had been resequenced by Herb himself, although I can't figure out why. The modified sequence neither adds nor detracts from the alum, so why bother? But those are the only negatives to a underappreciated album from the early 80s.
RISE-Bonus Tracks CD Jun 09, 2009 This is a 2007 re-release from the Shoutfactory of Herb Alpert's " RISE" album with 10 song selections titled Bonus Tracks. Although I consider this recording mostly filler, only because I personally believe less is more and a purist at heart, there are four selections that stand out. " Behind The Rain" stands out due to the natural soft flow of Herb Alpert's horn melody from start to finish. "Aranjuez" follows the purity of a more distinct latin beat as the orchestration follows smoothly along to a superb musical arrangement. I removed all aspects of a middle-eastern sound track from this selection and finished off with my own composition of what a spanish version was intended to play and timed out at 5:25 minutes. "Rise" stands out on it's own without musical compromise! "Rotation" and "Street Life" are two selections that are worthwhile easy to listen. Again being a purist and not a fan of techno/psychodellic sounding distortions, I didn't care for the alternate versions of "Rotation" and "Aranjuez." However as an avid fan of Herb Alpert I rated this CD with four stars based on two outstanding musical arrangements and two other selections that follow very well. If you like Herb Alpert playing a robust yet very smooth natural latin musical direction this is a great album that has merit along with another CD titled "Fandango." with musical direction by Juan Carlos Calderon, when ever it becomes available as a re-issue. Thank You.
Herb Alpert at his best Mar 27, 2009 Herb Alpert established his reputation in the 1960s by playing slightly spicy, Latin influenced, easy listening instrumentals. If you knew his 60s material before listening to Rise, then you might be surprised. This is simply excellent music from beginning to end. The title song is the most famous, but every other cut is equally enjoyable. The only exception might be "Love Is" which is the only song with any vocals, and every line of the lyrics begins with the words "love is" and thus can become a bit tedious. Still excellent music, however. If you have never heard Herb Alpert, this is the place to begin.
Perfect Jan 20, 2009 Was looking to buy this album, but didn't want to fight the music stores in order to get one. So I went straight to Amazon, did a search, and in one click, the order arrived in two days. You can't beat it. Music is very good as expected.
