5Awesome!!!  May 25, 2009
I happen to disagree with several of the reviewers of this cd who said that Disciple seems to be abandoning their message with this cd and just trying to get more air time. This is because I have the cd and have read the lyrics of each song. In fact, each song has some scripture to read and compare the lyrics. One thing I noticed was that in several songs, they were singing to God, so instead of saying "God or Jesus," they said "You" with a capital "Y" so that you knew that they were referring to God. Its actually pretty obvious on some songs. In fact, in "Rise Up," vocalist Kevin Young screams "I will not sit silently by as you mock and curse my God." This is one of my favorites on this cd. Every song on the cd is great though. I wish that people would actually read the lyrics and listen to the music before they accuse Disciple of going away from their message, because they definitely don't on this cd. Just read the lyrics and you will see what I mean.

4Driving Positive Rock  Oct 11, 2007
In all honesty, I had never heard of Disciple or their sound until I happened across "Game On" on the television. I enjoy bands like Pillar and Flyleaf, so I thought I'd give this self-titled disc a shot. Although "Game On" is not on this album (look for "Scars Remain"), I did find plenty of things to like about this band. First of all, this album is pure, driving hard rock with a postive message. According to other reviewers, Disciple has greatly cut back on their mentionings of Jesus in their songs. However, one look at the liner notes and you'll find Bible verse references to each and every song just like most Contemporary Christian acts list. To pigeonhole a professing Christian band or give them a bad review simply because you believe their lyrics are watered-down, fail to say "Jesus" enough or are secularized is wrong. These guys are legitimate with their faith and profess it through their lyrics without an in-your-face push of Jesus' name.

Overall this album is solid. The band appears to be very comfortable with their heavy riffs and prog rock sound. Highlights of this album include the pounding "The Wait Is Over," "Shine Down," and "Backstabber." "Rise Up" has a wonderful anthemic quality to it along the same lines as Pillar's "Frontline." It makes you want to pound your fist and scream right along with it. The hidden track, "Tribute," is a nice addition and is dedicated to our guys protecting us overseas. There are a couple of slower melodic rock tunes on the album, but rest assured that the bulk of the material would fit in nicely with bands like Seether, Saliva, and Nickelback.

If your idea of Christian music is along the lines of Steven Curtis Chapman or Twila Paris, this ain't your Christian music. However, if you like to rock out a bit, Disciple will not lead you astray.

3They need to rise up  Sep 28, 2007
Disciple definitely has a strong rocking sound with The Wait Is Over and Rise Up however after that it falls short. If you are happy with two good songs this album is for you the only thing is you will have to wade through numerous high pitched whining vocals mixed with deep dark instrumentals that never seem to match up or go anywhere. Download the two I mentioned the others you will never listen to. Hoping for them to rise up on their next album.

5Not perfect, but an amazing piece of work  Jul 27, 2007
Before buying this album last week, my lone experience with Disciple was the first track on this album, The Wait is Over. I love that song, but even more than that, the entire first half of the album rocks! The second half is still good, but does not match the intensity of the first half. On the whole, the vocals are sweet, the drums are dry but well done, and the guitar riffs are catchy. The overall sound is heavy and "full" but not overdone, not overproduced, and not inaccessible to those who like melodic music. I highly recommend this album to lovers of rock music, whether Christian or not.

The beauty of this album, though, lies in the lyrics. All songs were Scripture-inspired, and include a reference for listeners to check out and compare to the lyrics. While none of the lyrics have jumped out at me as "blatantly pro-Christian" to the point of marginalizing those who share a different faith, they are still Christ-centered and challenging to both believers and non-believers alike.

Stand-out tracks include: The Wait is Over, Into Black, Rise Up, Worth It All, and Backstabber. I can honestly say, though, that each song on this album is strong, and I know I will enjoy listening to this work for years to come. I can't wait to check out their most recent release, Scars Remain!
