4This is what it's all about  Nov 19, 2008
After watching the saddening fall of Rise Against off the hardcore punk map with their newest release, I had to come back and review the CD that made this band what they used to be. Fast tempo, uncompromising punk rock with distinct roots in hardcore and just enough pop sprinkled here and there. Mean sounding guitar riffs and a strong influence from the bass, thrown under the back and forth singing/screaming of one of punk's greatest vocalists. I only wish that the boys of Rise Against would have played more than 2 songs from this album when I saw them live last month instead of shoving almost the entire length of "Sufferer and the Witness" down my throat. These were the days when Tim was truly an angry man at the state of society and all he cared about was conveying that message through music that was so melodic and yet so downright brutal. This is by far the best CD Rise Against has or will ever put out, and anyone who hopped on board after "Siren Songs" should backtrack and pick up this punk rock gem, it absolutely is a must have. The first track pretty much sums up the truly euphoric sound that the boys of Rise Against yielded on their indie labels, with incredible speed that slowed down just enough for you to momentarily marvel at Tim's voice and then speed back up again. For a fan like this, this is what it's all about.

5Melodic Chaos!  Mar 30, 2008
Two words: amazing album. This is one of the most powerful collections of songs out there. From lyric gems such as "Like the Angel" to incredible guitar in "Torches," Rise Against's "Revolutions Per Minute" simply delivers. A fantastic album with unforgettable tracks.

5Absolutely incredible album!   Feb 11, 2008
This album is perhaps Rise Against's best. Every song on is simply amazing and a classic in its own right. The album has every great aspect of the band, from the politically minded (Blood Red, White and Blue and Black Masks and Gasoline), to screaming hardcore tracks (To The Core, Dead Ringer), and simply beautiful songs (Heaven Knows, Like The Angel, Last Chance Blueprint). One of the top albums to have emerged in the past decade, Revolutions Per Minute is a must have for any fan of hardcore. If you've heard perhaps one single from Rise Against and you're just getting into them, then this is a must for you. Amazing lyrics, beautiful guitar parts, even a few quotes buried in the intros all combine to create one of the best albums around. If you don't have this already...well...you really, really need to at the very least give it a listen. This incredible record is a must buy for anyone!

5RPM is classic Rise Against...  Feb 25, 2007
In newer albums, Rise Against has been a bit softer, and some have criticized them for it. If you're a fan of the softer tracks on "Siren Song" or "The Sufferer", this album *may* not be for you. It's unabashedly hard and heavy, with a little bit of angst. That being said, it's quite good, if you like that kind of music. It's a fantastic album, for the right listener.

Some albums are amazing for a month and then you play them once every week or two after that, at best. RPM was one of those albums where the harshness is surprising, but it grows on you.

5WARNING: Highly Addictive  Jan 21, 2007
Rise Against has risen(no pun intended) to be one of the best mainstream bands out there. Tim McIlrath has probably the best vocals in a punk band I've seen since Glenn Danzig. And the musicians are highly talented. They may be punk, but that doesn't mean that they have no talent at their instruments.

Anyway, about this album. It didn't quite captivate me at first. Probably because I've grown to love Siren Song so much and this was way different. Well, as time flew by, I became addicted to it. I really started to know that this IS Rise Against. Don't get me wrong, Siren Song is a great album that also gets 5 stars, but it's a completely different sound and besides Tim's voice it almost sounds like a different band (they came back to the true Rise Against sound with Sufferer and the Witness).
1.Black Masks and Gasoline
5/5 Can you pick a better song to start off the album? One of the fastest, yet melodic, songs on the album.
2.Heaven Knows
5/5 Holy frikin poop! Heaven knows that this is a great song (pun intended). It's the one that got me hooked. To this day, it has stayed as one of my favorite Rise Against songs. From it's fast hardcore intro, to its slow emotional outro, it's a must listen.
3.Dead Ringer
3.5/5 Ehh, I'm a bit iffy on this one.
4.Halfway There
4.5/5 This is a good one. It's probably the darkest song on the album.
5.Like the Angel
4/5 This one's pretty alright by me. A bit overrated if you ask me. It's not like much of anything else on the album. It's always better hearing this on THUG than it is on the CD for some reason.
6.Voices Off Camera
4.5/5 This one's really catchy. I like it.
7.Blood Red, White, and Blue
5/5 Ha! one of the angriest songs on the album.
8.Broken English
5/5 .....I'm completely stunned, this song is so great. This may be the best song on the album. Not sure, I'll have to do a bit of consideration.
9.Last Chance Blueprint
3/5 Another kinda okay one.
10.To The Core
5/5 THIS is the angriest song on the album. It's aggression and energy makes me wanna mosh and break something.
11.Torches
5/5 I actually didn't like this at first. WTF was wrong with me?! btw, I think they should've ended the song with the slow part.
12.Amber changing
4.5/5 Good way to end the CD.

Rise Against's best album is either this or Sufferer. I'll have to do some choosing and consideration first though.
