Give us Reportage! Feb 19, 2008 This is the version of RCM I bought. Allow me to give you my original review of this album with the addition of "Cry Baby Cry":
1. The Valley- Reminds me of a Depeche Mode song. Ok track.(3)
2. Red Carpet Massacre- A rocker-like song with a "circus" beat popping up in between(??). Lyrics about the paparazzi. I wish this song could've been longer..(2)
3. Nite Runner- Funky, upbeat dance song. Justin and Simon's voice blend beautifully together. Definitely worthy of a single, I'd give it a 5 if it didn't have the rapping on it.(4)
4. Faling Down- Best song on the album. Reminds me of "Ordinary World." Well done!(5)
5.Box Full of Honey- Ok track.(3)
6. Skin Divers- WORST SONG EVER. It had nothing to do with the music or the words. It was Timba-man's little "whicky, whicky, whicky" in the chorus that got on my nerves. Man, totally not gangsta.(0)
7. Tempted- Sounds like "Sexy Back.." (1)
8. Tricked out- An instrumental piece. To me,it sounded like something pulled off a Tim Burton movie. Waste of 2 minutes!(1)
9. Zoom in- Forgetable. It's 3 minutes of listening to "noise."(1)
10. She's too much- Slow rock song. Not a favorite, though. Can't we use real drums?(2)
11. Dirty Great Monster- Spooky, dark song. Disappointing end.(2)
12. Last Man Standing- Boring, the hip-hop beats sound like that One Republic song that Timba-man produced. What happened to Roger???(1)
13. Cry Baby Cry (Bonus Track)- Another good one, wish this had been on the orginal album. Funky dance track about young hollywood. Like it better than the last seven tracks. Not to disappoint!(4)
(Original) Overall- O.K,4 stars, why? (1)It's Duran Duran, (2)Give them credit for trying, (3)"Falling Down", (4)in hopes that I'll get my hands on that "Reportage" album. Who wants to hear, "Criminals in the Capitals"?
(New!)
Minus one for the overproduction. Timba-man and Danja could've taken it to the next level, but it seems they fell flat. It's not the same Duran Duran sound. To me, it's all of Timba's work thrown into a blender with a dash of Simon LeBon and that's RCM. If it wasn't for the rap and had some more live playing (especailly drums! Where's Roger on this CD??) I would've given this 5 stars. On the other hand, Justin did a fantastic job with "Falling Down," why couldn't he produce the whole album?
I hope "Reportage" is released in the near future. It's already DONE. Written, recorded, produced, and all it needed was the green light and we would've all had this album, back in EARLY 2007 that is. "Too political" and no starting single stopped this album and you got RCM instead. "Reportage" was a harder rock-controversial album taking a shot at the world. Who doesn't like controversy? Thanks record executives, for having no balls!!!!! I hope you Duranies want to hear this album, too.
Other than that, if you haven't gotten RCM I recommend you get this version with the bonus track. But if you want my honest opinion, buy the single for "Falling Down," All previous albums are recommended, especially of you're new to the band.
RCM is a hit or miss. You either like it or you don't. For me, it was 50/50. It doesn't stand out as much as "Astronaut" and the sound is like everybody else's music. Too much "Futuresex/Lovesounds" and not enough Duran Duran. I'm hoping we can get out of 21st century disco and bring back some rock! I miss Duran Duran's old-school rock!
Do whatever you have to get "Reportage" released! There's a lot of fans who want to hear it! I won't be disappointed! But ditch your current label (Epic), they suck.
The "Mad Mind" has spoken.
