 Great if you can manage to read it Jul 01, 2009
This book is packed with high yield facts and images. Unfortunately it also packed with some less high yield material, making it a very difficult read. I found myself struggling to slog through it and wasting lot of board study time on it. In the end I dropped it from my board study routine for this reason. I found the audio lectures had the information more succinctly. If you have time to use this book during your coursework it is a good investment. It will pay off big time when you get to board review and have a solid background. Plus you will be familiar with the book and can use it as a quick reference to look up points of confusion

wonderful, well organized, easy to follow. perfect supplement to path. I thought everyone was exaggerating when they talked about Goljan, but i was wrong.

This book is very dense, but it covers ALL that you need to know to take step 1. Goljan does a great job of presenting the information in a concise way.

Even though it is a review, it's a bit long and time consuming. BUt if you don't mind that, the book is EXCELLENT

The first book I bought by Dr. Goljan was the old STARS Pathology and Pathology Review from 1998. When I started medical school in 2001, they were the only Goljan books available and they were awesome. STARS (Saunders Text and Review) was the same series in which Costanzo's Physiology book was first published and it was an awesome series. Unfortunately, the STARS series is out of print and that's too bad, because now you can't get Dr. Goljan's original Pathology book.
Now, the only way to legally get Dr. Goljan's stuff is to enroll in an extremely expensive test prep course (I think he still teaches for Kaplan) or become a student at Oklahoma State's medical school.
Or, of course, you can buy Rapid Review Pathology. It is, without a doubt, the best review book you can buy on the subject. IMHO, it still isn't quite as good as the old STARS Pathology. But since you can't get that anymore, this is the best you can do.
There are other things of his you can get (and cover the same material so they help reinforce the material in Rapid Review Pathology) including audio files, slides, USMLE-style questions, student lecture notes, high yield notes (for all subjects not just pathology), the Rapid Review Biochem book and the RR Lab Tests book.
Unfortunately, most of this stuff is only available illegally (and I don't have any of that stuff). But, if there were some way to combine all of this stuff into one product that medical students could buy, it would be the most unbelievable learning tool out there. I hope Dr. Goljan is able to do this somehow. I also hope he is able to publish a more up-to-date version of his STARS Pathology book.
