A legend in the making... Apr 12, 2009 For all those lamenting the demise of Rahat's uncle, the legendary Nusrat, this first US recorded album from his protégé and nephew won't disappoint. Bizarrely produced by legendary rock & rap label mogul and producer Rick Rubin, the album's four tracks all managed to stand out on their own accord. Not over-produced (as most great albums aren't), this debut release is far superior to his follow-up studio but debut Indian release 'Chakhra' which is extremely polished and obviously aimed at a less traditional but more Bollywood orientated listener. This would appear to be a logical career expansion in view of his success singing and duetting on a number of big Bollywood film hit songs. The challenge will be keeping the Qawalli purists happy, while dabbling in the more lucrative but certainly more poppy arena. This album has now been deleted in some territories so grab it before it becomes scarce and you find yourself buying it for double the price. If you appreciate this kind of music (or even if you're new to it!), you'll still be playing this album in 10 years' time. Without a doubt, Pakistan's best artist export of the decade.
rahat nusrat fateh ali khan Apr 11, 2006 Rahat was a great asset to his uncle Nusrat and now his self named cd name is living up to the expectation of what Nusrat would have wanted for him. If all his cd were available to me i would buy them just as quickly

Wonderful singing! In tradition of Nusrat... Sep 23, 2005 I picked this up by mistake actually, thinking it was a younger Nusrat recording.
When I got home and saw it was his "successor" and that the album was produced by Rick Rubin, I was dubious.
The first seconds of the first track took away these apprehensions, though. Rahat has a beautiful voice, and all tracks are in the traditional style, not bastardized for a Western audience.
It's not really fair to try to compare Rahat to Nusrat, is it? Rahat has a strong and unique voice in his own right, and I enjoy this CD very much. I just wish there was more of his music available.

Pleasure Pleasure Pleasure Jul 22, 2005 Rahat has a voice only a successor of Nusrat can have. His voice is completely different from Nusrat yet he can create that magic that only the best qawwals can create - the feeling of "wajd" or ecstasy.
Buy him, its worth every cent!
