Well....it's not bad....but...... Mar 08, 2009 I knew the former lead singer of M People had some solo work out there and i finally got around to checking it out. Proud is really a great song but the rest was a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping to hear more of the sound from her M People days and if youre looking for the same...its not here. I guess its only natural when a lead singer goes solo to venture onto a different artistic path and thats what Smalls does with this set. The mood here is very mellow.(in hindsight the cover artwork hints at this fact as Smalls is shown in very casual dress on a seemingly reflective stroll) No uptempo gusty numbers are to be found here.
As stated earlier its not really bad but for the fans of M People, its not the same. Its really strange hearing hear voice on so many slow tempo songs. Smalls low range gusty vocals sounded better nailing down uptempo songs rather than this collection of somewhat maudlin material.
Great CD Sep 17, 2008 Loved her when she sang with M people she is great as a solo Artist Great CD
LOVE THIS CS Feb 15, 2008 I bought this CD basically for the 'PROUD' song - but the rest of the CD is just as good! Her voice is amazing!
I'm Going to Make Myself Proud Jan 01, 2008 I know I should review the entire album, but Proud is an awesome song. I've been watching the Biggest Loser all-day marathon and I finally decided to find out more about this amazing song. I'm adding it to my IPOD asap. 2008 is the year I make myself proud!
It's a Great and Meaningful album Jun 18, 2006 Her music in this album won't blow you away, but you can appreciate the meaning to her lyrics, as well as her unique style that doesn't talk about sex or violence.Proud is a good choice as her single, because it's her best song and most meaninful song from her album. The rest of her album is also very consistent, because the songs have her great voice and meaning that keeps you hooked.I would reccomend this album to anyone who likes to listen to music that talks about change and the world.
