As long as he's having fun.. Dec 22, 2009 Thats all that matters. The fluff-piece that is "Guitar" cruelly fades out just as he's starting an all-out assault with his Strat, another track has a glint of the Linn LM-1. I turn the music off, and put on "Controversy" instead. With a back catalogue that is the stuff of gods, theres no point in hanging around in this future...

Buying Prince Aug 05, 2009 I love Prince, so I tried to buy all his music. I always find some song I can't live without. This time was not the case. I liked a couple of songs, but I'm glad I bought this used. But if you love Prince, then this is better than fair.

Hearing himself Jul 20, 2009 2 1/2
It's always sad to see once vital artists trail off into irrelevance, and although Prince has aged more gracefully than many of his long standing peers, it is impossible to ignore the creeping vanity driving more vacant compositions over the years, masking perhaps as diversity or even self-myth. There are fleeting moments of greatness if you seek it, but it sounds stuck between a whole lot of pseudo-get-down, and some clunky genre experiments, both which of course produce at least one impressive exception to avoid complete erosion.
Prince is still amazing May 27, 2009 I recently got this and several other post-2000 Prince cd's. Each and every one of them floats my boat, this included. I do question the wisdom of not putting the song titles anywhere on the cd or cover, but I do love the music. Prince, still amazing!
Still I wonder: is he talking about an actual guitar, or ... ? Apr 08, 2009 Prince still sounds like he did when he was 25, and he's still interested in the same things--namely sex, God, and music. Not because he hasn't matured, just because he knew everything he wanted and/or needed to know when he was 25. At 49, he's still brilliant as any of his peers and more exciting than most of them combined. And I'm still wondering which of his lyrics are literal and which are dirty metaphors. When he sings, "I love you baby/But not like I love my guitar," is he singing about his guitar or his ... guitar? Regardless, he makes planet Earth seem like a fun place to be. He even reminds us he can rap, if we knew that before (see "Mr. Goodnight"). Bringing back Wendy and Lisa--more evident in "Lion of Judah" than in the forepondered "Guitar"--is the final touch to ensure that "Planet Earth" sparkles.
