A Little Faith Restored Feb 26, 2010 note: Ok first off let me say i dont use many or really know that many big words.............English was my worst subject in school so my grammer is pretty poor even though im of average intelligence.....So if i miss spell some words or miss some commas then cut me some slack.

Alright where do i start? OK, first off this album has restored a little bit of my faith in new music. Not since 2003 have I bought a new band's album(Yeah Rooney's self titled album left a bad taste in my mouth when their awesome beach boys good vibrations era sounding song "Blue Side" was the only good track on their self titled album with the rest just being Teeny Bopper snit) and The Radio plus Rooney cauzed me to throw in the towel on new music.......UP UNTIL NOW!!!!!!!!!!
Oracular Spectacular is like a kalidescope of sounds.........With alot of keyboards, synths, distorted guitars, and 60's type cult psychedilia. The music reminds me of mid-career ween, flaming lips, and 60's era psychedilia mixed in a blender with a pinch of originality. Literally 2 songs off this album sound like they were taking off The Flaming Lips - In A Priest Driven Ambulance.Sure this album has some pop elements but pop doesn't control it, MGMT controls the pop (get it?).......So if you like any of the bands i just mentioned or if you just like weird, eccentric, trippy music with a hint of pop BUY THIS ALBUM or atleast give it a try
Excuse My Poor Grammer

A Great Work DESTROYED by tragically bad mixing Feb 23, 2010 When will record execs get it? If I'm going to pay for something that I can easily get for free, shouldn't it be of at least somewhat higher quality? In a market where sales are in the dump and only getting worse, shouldn't they at least TRY to differentiate? The sound on this vinyl (and CD also) is so bad, save your money and just download it for free. I SWEAR a two year old with his eyes on the VU meter could have done a better job. My roommate asked what was wrong with the turntable! This isn't transient clipping; it's not woops we got it a tad too loud - even the VOCALS are in saturation! SWEET JESUS??!?!?!! It really is a shame, too, because if any album out this year could have really benefited from a super mastering job, this was it. The spaces, imaging, texturing, etc could really have been epic on this one. And, I'm sure somewhere between the recording phase and the final factory phase it was. I would just assume that kids bright enough to create such an interesting album would know how to run a mixer better than this. So my assumption is that this happened somewhere downstream toward the end. Probably some record label's recording metric for average loudness- or some other equally insipid corporate crap. This REALLY IS A SHAME because it's a very fun album that I just can't listen to. And there is a known, albeit quite small market (couple $mil at the most) of record collectors who would buy this based on sound quality alone. Let's just throw that market out with the bath water. Not that they saved even one red cent producing this garbage. Pretty sure the cost of pressing an album with 50% clipping is no less than one with 0.0% clipping. How far can this go? If there were any more clipping, it would be non-intelligible. What's even more maddening, is it's the second album I've bought this year that sounds like this. From now on, I'll not be purchasing ANYTHING from these studios, and I'll be looking for reviews and recommendations (perhaps the turnmeup logo) to avoid wasting my money in the future.
Best Rythm Feb 18, 2010 This song is a great dancing song and has a great rythm. From listening to this song it is about "KIDS". The name says it all. From saying how they like to watch you laughing to saying decisions are made a lot. Talking about parenthood. This song has a rythm to it andis a great sounding song. If you love to dance this is your type of song. : )
Dancy, slightly 70's funk, electronic and fun! Feb 10, 2010 I REALLY liked this album. I think these guys are VERY talented. I love how the sound is VERY dancy, lots of electronic, energetic, upbeat sound, and yet still has a tinge of 70's funk (which I usually do not like, but works great here). They did an awesome job! I recommend to everyone, just to listen or play at clubs, it works both ways!
