Well done Oct 12, 2009 Starting with a caveat that art is subjective, I must say that Oh! Gravity is a most excellent album. The lyrics are as deep as all other Switchfoot songs, the chord progressions are fresh and the beats are engaging. Dirty Second Hands and Circles are what I call successful experiments, with complex, non-conventional beats that keep you guessing. Standouts. I love the lyrical bass underlay in "Circles", and the end segment reminds me of Scarborough Fair. The album is a veritable smorgasboard of styles, with clapping as the added spice. I look forward to more harmonics among the band singers in the future.
Oh Gravity! Mar 30, 2009 This is a great cd, I was actually surprised at how much I have enjoyed it. I didn't expect it to be that great, but it is a great cd.
CD - "Oh Gravity", by Switchfoot Jan 29, 2009 Thought the CD was wasn't quite as good as previous CD's of theirs, but did have some good tracks that I enjoyed.
Average effort from Switchfoot Jan 25, 2009 I would have to say this album is average at best. I will say though, if you ever get a chance to see Switchfoot live do it. They are incredible in concert.
Great Rock Album Dec 24, 2008 I first heard this CD when it first came out, and wasn't too impressed. I was still digging their "Learning To Breathe" album most at that point; Oh! Gravity was just too different from that for me to enjoy.
Fortunately I came to appreciate this album for what it was: a great rock album. I really like the variety presented here: from the punky opening track, to the moody psychadelic "Dirty Second Hands", to the incredibly upbeat rock anthem "Awakening", to the storytelling of "Faust, Midas, and Myself", Switchfoot still manages to tie it all together and make it their own. Switchfoot is one of the few groups that has kept my attention through the years with a fresh sound and thoughtful lyrics.
I have a fairly good sized CD collection, ranging from albums I've literally only listened to once and put away, to albums that I listen to on a regular basis years down the road. This is one of the latter.
