Absolutely solid, melodic, powerful -- you must own this recording Jan 16, 2008 I bought this CD a few years ago after hearing "Lie on Lie" and it quickly became one of my all-time favorite rock recordings; those who hear it inevitably feel the same way and purchase a copy for themselves. Not a bad cut on the album, period. The songs are at once smart, powerful and melodic -- flowing on an undercurrent of angst while maintaining an element of refinement that flirts on the fringes universal appeal. Musicianship is great -- with a rhythm section that comes across as if these guys have been playing together since they were three -- and Michael Duff's vocals are soulful and musical. Why this recording didn't reach far higher levels of commercial success I'll never know (as a long-time musician, it doesn't give me much in the way of hope). I HIGHLY recommend this disc to anyone -- a superior effort from a band that should have gone a long way but, sadly, ended up somehow overlooked by the mainstream.

Great Music Jun 18, 2007 I really like this cd. It gets played on a regular basis and is like an old comfortable sweat shirt. I went to high school with Toby, and he's still the king of syncopated rhythm. He is such an amazing drummer and I hope he's found his rhythm again since Chalk Farm has split up. Please forgive my bias, but I still think this cd rocks.
Fantastic CD Mar 07, 2006 I miss this band so much. I'd give anything to see them perform again. I don't know what happened to them but I used to see them play every chance I got around the LA area.
You don't find music like this anymore. I listen to this CD every single day and it will always be one of my very favorites.
Great Band - Great CD Aug 19, 2005 I was working at the WALL music store when this cd came out. I was given the promo copy and took it home and gave it a listen. After that, I pushed this CD to everyone that came in. Unfortunately, Matchbox20 came out a week later and that's what everyone wanted instead. This is still one of my all time favorite CDs. I have bought this CD for so many friends and they all loved it. I also bought the unreleased CD (Three 2s). This band is/was not a one hit wonder! Any of the songs on this cd could have been a hit. Just not enough air time. Just buy it!

Best CD U've Never Heard of Jan 30, 2003 Chalk Farm was published 6 years ago & the band has split. This CD is it! The music pulses with energy and rocks with abandon only to slow and touch you. "Live Tomorrow" is a thundering electric opener, "Angels spread my wings & see the fences tumble, ageless memories, they watch the strong man crumble at my feet." The CD slows for "Lesson," a soft droning melody punctuated by staccato shotgun bursts of REM-style guitar. "Lie On Lie" has an engaging melody. "I shot a man the other day; the morning sun it shined on me anyway," Michael Duff sings on the midtempo "Hey." "Lose You Now" is an intriguing rocker, "I thought everything was good; you ask me if I love you; what made you think I don't; When I'm trying to show I care, please don't ask about her." "Don't Believe" is another great rocker with a catchy chorus. "Lilly Anne" is a great song that builds into a furious climax. "It's Up to You" is softer, almost folkie, with a pretty melody, "I look for some direction & I find a woman who won't reach me." "The Girl Is Crying" thrashes followed by another softie, "Sunflower." The CD snoozes for 3 minutes before winding up with a hidden track. "Notwithstanding" is a consistently strong set of songs that has lyrical depth as well as rocks on. U snooze U lose! Enjoy!
