Another Switchfoot Success Dec 29, 2009 I don't know how they do it, but switchfoot knows how to produce a hit album. I had almost every album except this one so I went back and purchased it. The other reviews are right. It is a winner. Classic sound, classic songs. I got hooked quickly.
A Review of the VINYL not the CD Aug 26, 2009 The CD of this album is great. I love switchfoot an incredible amount. However, the LP version of this album is horribly mixed, has a mono feel to it and just fails to carry the record quality vinyl has. I was very disappointed by the sound of the vinyl version.

YES Aug 19, 2008 This is the first Switchfoot album I've purchased. I bought it on a whim and I'm so glad I did! I can connect so well to these songs. The lyrics just make sense, they're deep and insightful, and musically the songs are all very well written as well. In response to the reviews about not being able to convert files to mp3 format, viruses, etc., if you have iTunes you shouldn't have any problems with the mp3 format, and if you buy the album new it shouldn't have that virus-enabling software at all - I got mine new and it didn't.
I especially like: Stars, The Shadow Proves the Sunshine, *The Blues*, Golden, We Are One Tonight

"We are slaves of what we want" Jun 20, 2008 Switchfoot first came in the to the public eye with their 2003 album The Beautiful Letdown and their amazing singles from said album "Meant to Live" and "Dare You to Move." Great lyrics combined with amazing guitar riffs and drum beats made it one of my all time favorite albums ever. Before that time they had three other really great albums The Early Years: 1997-2000: The Legend Of Chin/New Way To Be Human/Learning To Breathe and they've come out with another album since this one, Oh! Gravity., but in my not so humble opinion this is their best.
This is their first album with all five present members of the band, adding Andrew Shirley's guitar to their mix. Their sound is nothing short of incredible, not too heavy and not too light, it's the perfect mix to make up one great alternative rock sound. Lead Singer Jonathan Foreman has the voice of angels that flows perfectly with the bands amazing musical talent. Its not hard rock like Skillet (Comatose, Collide) and it snot punk like Reliant K (MMHMM), its simply great music.
Favorites on this album include "Lonely Nation," "Stars," "Golden," and "We Are One Tonight."

Some absolute gems in this album May 13, 2008 This is NOT Switchfoots best album -- opinions vary about that (I'm a pretty big fan of the latest "Oh Gravity") -- but it has some real stand out tracks beyond "Stars". While "Stars" got plenty of airplay on CCM and even a few secular stations, the edgier work on this disk is really where it shines. I'd throw this criticism at "Stars," that it's really just quintesential Switchfoot, a relatively unremarkable recording because of how typical it is of the group. With that in mind, I know the tracks I favor might be the ones that cause most people to reject the album. "Politicians" is a solid metal-core effort and stands out for having the most straight forward and unleashed presentation of Switchfoots strengths musically. "Golden" goes where the other tracks don't by being less moody and melodic, perhaps it's edgy just for being such a light direction on a primarily brooding effort. This album grows on you, and it seems to be holding up better for me than "The Beautiful Letdown" after repeated listenings. I do find myself skipping through some tracks, but the ones I like justify my decision to buy this CD.
